Can any print be turned into a black and white?

John Riedy Photography - FAQ
Absolutely. In my opinion, the black and white prints that I am making now are every bit as beautiful as traditional film prints. In fact, due to the additional tonal control that I have in Photoshop, I believe that they may even exceed traditional prints. Like the color prints, the black and white prints are just as archival as film based prints. They will not fade in your lifetime.

or any other colour? You can't do this directly in PageMaker. Create this (which is called a gradient fill) in Photoshop or Illustrator or whatever drawing or paint program you use, and place it in PageMaker. If you want to apply a color in PageMaker, make it a grayscale original rather than creating it in color. If you want to make it an EPS rather than a TIFF file, then make the preview a 1-bit preview (it won't look so good on screen but you'll be able to see the colour that you apply).

The bud on my Paph. has turned brown (or black). What happened?

PAPHIOPEDILUM: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
There are many reasons for 'bud blast', or the death of the developing bud. If the bud gets too cold, for instance from being too close to a window in the colder months, it may blast. At the other end of the spectrum, if the bud becomes overheated from too much direct sun it may blast. You can also lose buds to rot if water is allowed to remain in the crown of the plant for an extended period of time, particularly during colder temperatures.

Many organizations start developing materials in black and white. This is completely acceptable as long as the materials have a professional look and an effective message. This means that you should always check for proper grammar and spelling. It also means that you should not design an object in color and then make black and white copies. If your final product will be black and white, your original should be developed in black and white.

QOOP PhotoManager
Yes. However, please save your images in grayscale format to prevent our software from recognizing your images as being formatted for color. Distortion can occur if your B&W images are saved in RGB or CMYK formats, which are formats designed for color printing. Color distortion to B&W images can also be increased if the images are scans that have not been converted to grayscale format.

Yes you can, although the recommended set up would be to have one printer dedicated to colour printing (using a colour inkset) and one printer dedicated to monochrome (black & white) printing (using a black & white inkset). However, for many individuals, having two printers is not an option due to lack of space or budget. In this case, the best option is to go for the Epson 2100 using PhotoChrome Inks. These produce a good colour range and excellent blacks.

Generally the answer is no. Paper, plates, and ink—the main materials in the printing process—cost the same here as they do anywhere else in the world. Printing presses and other related equipment cost the same no matter where you go and must be maintained the same way worldwide. We in the United States actually pay less for uncoated book paper than foreign consumers because the paper mills are right here.
