Philips D2S/D2R bulbs come with a P32D base. This is where all the Philips markings are found. This base gets removed in order to accomodate a custom moulded halogen base so that the product can be used in halogen headlights. These custom moulded bases are laser aligned to ensure optically correct beam patterns.

The base, mounting system, connectors, and electrical specifications are far different, and the end result would be poor light output from your headlight housings. We do not recommend this.

The ballasts are small boxes (usually one per bulb) that convert the car's 12VDC into high voltage AC required to illuminate the xenon gas. Usually built into the ballast is the igniter initially required to start the bulb. The wiring harnesses allow you to plug directly into your exiting car wiring with a minimum of splicing wires. HID bulbs can explode if it is not handled correctly. This will occur if the bulb is very cold when first turned on, or if it contains fingerprint oils or moisture. To prevent accidents, never pick the bulb up directly by the glass - you need to be careful about fingerprints getting on it.. Handle the bulb by the base and wrap the glass body in a paper towel. Handling the bulb through the paper towel, screw it carefully into the lamp body.

If you are doing a conversion for a 9006 setup using the custom fabricated beam pattern correct kit, then no modifications to the HID lamp is needed to make it fit. Some headlamp housings where the 9006 bulb is held in by a clip may require the removal of a small tab on the inner edge of where the bulb enters the housing. This can be done using a file, but care must be taken not to allow any particles or dust to enter the headlamp housing.
