Frequently Asked Questions

Are my chances for admission better if I apply Early Decision?

NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > FAQS
Possibly. The Early Decision applicant pool is considerably smaller than the regular decision applicant pool. Also, keep in mind that the number of offers of admission we can make for regular admission students is always limited by the number of spots we have available in the freshman class. Every year, we have regular decision students who have qualifications very similar to those we have admitted who are not offered admission due to space constraints.

Should I apply Early Decision/Early Action? Will I have an advantage if I apply early?

Post-High School Counseling -FAQs
Applying early, whether ED or EA, is first and foremost a commitment to a college that it is absolutely your number one choice. There are both advantages and potential disadvantages to applying early, and the decision is not one to be entered into without considering all other options. A student who indicates that he/she wants to apply "somewhere" - without considering criteria that best match his/her academic interests, career goals, and personal needs is probably making a poor decision.
