Several ways. We try to stay consistent for one. How often have you seen (or read) a major SF space opera in which the dimensions of the spacecraft or their speed changes from one episode or installment to the next? There is no denying standard space opera is great fun. But often the needs of dramatic tension combined with the pressure of deadlines makes consistency the first victim of any space opera setting.

Orion's Arm ("OA" for short) is a shared world project in Hard SF worldbuilding. It is intended as a fun way of bringing together some of the most innovative and controversial themes and ideas in both science writing and futurological speculation. The name, "Orion's Arm", is actually a pun.

Then please feel free to submit some. We do ask that you stay away from humanoid/anthropocentric races, because (given the way evolution works as a random process) the consensus in the scientific community is that such would be extremely unlikely. OA does set a high standard (in terms of uniqueness/weirdness combined with plausibility) for accepting new aliens into the setting, but we don't forbid them. This is a work in progress, not a finished product.

The OAWBG includes all the members of the Orion's Arm WorldBuilding Mail List or Creative Writing and Art Group who are in some way or another contributing (whether ideas, suggestions, and/or content) to the Orion's Arm Worldbuilding Project at any one time. There is a core of senior members, along with a large number of people who contribute more occasionally.

There are several, but perhaps most important is that in the future the universe will be ruled by God-like Artificial Intelligences. And this is where this scenario radically differs from most other science fiction. We are currently working on an OA roleplaying game, which is a revision of the original one. There is a new Role-Playing Game Message Board which has been established for game design and general discussion on this matter. Currently discssuon of these matters has stalled.

The PHOENIX has peak output volume capability that is just not needed in many homes, especially in living rooms of less than 400 ft2. Also, I had been searching for drivers that might match or exceed the performance of those used in the PHOENIX in terms of linear and non-linear distortion.

Facetiously, Space Opera means any science fiction setting where maidens are busty, heroes are bold (and lantern-jawed), and spaceships look like Buck Rogers-style V2 rockets (fins and all) and go "whoosh" in a vacuum. More seriously Space Opera means epic stories set against an interstellar backdrop, a genre founded by E.E. "Doc" Smith (Lensman series, etc) and later developed by Isaac Asimov (Foundation Series), Frank Herbert (Dune), and other writers of the Golden Age of Science Fiction.

About 6 months ago my right arm began to periodically itch from the shoulder to thumb.
