No. It is true that protection of streamside vegetation is critical to protecting streams. However, destruction of any vegetation in a watershed and replacement of the natural areas with impervious surfaces such as concrete parking lots and rooftops creates significant and ongoing problems. The impervious areas impair the ability of the watershed to absorb and hold rainwater.

The land area over which water flows to reach a river, lake, or reservoir from which drinking water is drawn is called the watershed. Any pollution or contamination introduced into the watershed area will ultimately affect the quality of the drinking water supply, so it is important that we protect these areas.

Oftentimes, the vegetation truck becomes full before the route is complete. Another truck will be sent to finish collection as soon as possible, often the next day.

The wetlands help filter pollutants and sediment from the surface water before it enters the streams. The wetlands help to slow the rate of water entering a stream after a rain storm. This helps to prevent erosion in the stream and it helps to prevent flooding along the stream. It is excellent habitat for organisms that depend on the stream for water and the habitat provided by the wetland provides a safe haven for the animals. It is also a great place to bird watch or just take in nature!

The Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirosris) is a large, gray or gray-brown, spindle-shaped, plant-eating marine mammal found in Florida's shallow coastal waters, rivers and springs. The average adult manatee is about 10 feet long and weighs about 1,200 pounds. Manatees spend about six to eight hours a day feeding and about two to 12 hours a day resting on the bottom or at the water's surface.
