Can I protect files on a CD-R disc or a floppy?

Folder Guard - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
You can use Folder Guard to restrict access to the CD-ROM or floppy drive, but that would not encrypt the files on the CD or floppy disk. It means that if you take the CD or floppy to another computer, without Folder Guard installed on it, the disc or floppy would NOT be protected. If you want to protect the removable drive so that it would be protected even if you remove it from your computer, you need some sort of encryption software to do that. (Folder Guard does NOT do encryption.)

I keep several virtual ones on floppies :-). The maximum file size is not closely related to the maximum disk size. The maximum disk size is 1TB. It is a feature that the file size can be larger than the disk size. The following example creates a file of size 8T-1 using a whole 32K of disk space (3 indirect blocks and 1 data block) on a small root partition. The dd command requires a dd that works with large files. % cat foo df .

Digital pictures are large files, often in the megabyte range. Such large pictures pose real challenges in terms of Internet hosting and often results in long wait times for uploading images.
