Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook for email access under MS Windows 95 or 98. We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with a mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook is a commercial email client from MicroSoft. In MS IE, select [View], then [Internet Options...], then select the [Programs] tab. Next to the Mail label, select MS Outlook. Save your changes.

Fill in your name and your email address. Then type "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your Internet mail server. The account name is your login ID and then enter your password. Afterwards, press " ADVANCED OPTIONS" button. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server)

Select "POP3" from the pull-down menu as your server type. Then enter "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your incoming mail server and "smtpo.ctimail.com" as your outgoing mail server. Press "NEXT" to continue. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server) Select "Use an existing dialup connection" button and then select "CTInets" from the scroll-down menu. Press "NEXT".

Enter the host name www.securelook-mail.com as the address for both your incoming and outgoing mail servers. Please note the www. in the address, as your client will report SSL related warnings based on the name of the server if it does not match. Set the account to use SMTP authentication. By default, your application should use the same user and password you use to retrieve mail.

Off campus access through Outlook using the Exchange Service is not supported. To access your email off campus you either need to use IMAP or the Web interface. The IMAP/POP/SMTP server is mail.cmich.edu. The Web interface is located at: https://mail.cmich.edu/exchange. Regardless of the method you use to connect, the username and password remain the same. If you are using a client utilizing IMAP or POP to check your mail, you need to set your SMTP server to a server provided by your local ISP.

For the incoming POP3 and outgoing SMTP servers in Outlook, set both to mail.yourdomainname.com using your own domain name. For your admin user, the username in Outlook is simply the email address in full.

Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook Express for email access under MS Windows 98. One of the nice features about MS Outlook Express is the ability to setup multiple email accounts. We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with an RXN mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook Express is the mail interface distributed with IE 4.0.

Set the email address to the address you have set up using the Cpanel. Set "my incoming mail server" to POP3 (default) and set "Incoming Mail (Pop3 or Imap) server" to mail.yourname.com and "Outgoing mail SMTP server" to either the outgoing mail settings for your internet service provider or providing your internet provider allows access to a 3rd party server set to mail.yourname.com, (replacing yourname.com with your unique domain name.

To create an mail account. Open Outlook. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. In the "Internet Accounts" dialog box, click the Add button and select Mail. Type a descriptive name for this email account. Press the "Next" button. Type your e-mail address. Press the "Next" button. Make sure that the the SSL is not used and POP3 port is 110 (default). Click OK. In the next window, click Next and then click Finish.

Right-click Internet Email then click Properties (if Internet Email is not in the list click Add, Internet Email, then OK )

You can configure your Outlook profile to automatically empty the Wastebasket upon logging out. This will insure that the deleted items are removed from the server when you exit Outlook. To do this, perform the following:

Outlook Web Access (OWA) and/or Microsoft Outlook utilizing a direct connection to an Exchange server are currently the officially supported MavMail e-mail clients. Microsoft Outlook setup instructions to the Exchange server are provided below: You can use an unsupported dedicated e-mail client to access MavMail using IMAP or POP3 protocols. The configuration and use of unsupported e-mail clients will be the sole responsibility of the user.

Launch Netscape and type https://exchange.unh.edu/ in the location field. Enter your username at the logon screen. Type the name of your domain (AD, BUS-SVC-CTR, GRANITE), a slash, and your username in the logon box. Enter the password you use to log into the network in the password box.
