To decide our Channel Winners and Grand Prize Winner, we have four stages of judging. We feel this is the best way to award our prizes, because it's completely uncheatable and gives every artist a completely equal shot. For a breakdown of how the different stages work, read this.

Each plan selected for the semi-final round is evaluated and rated according to the judges criteria outlined on our webpage. Semi-final plans are then seeded into five tracks with a goal of achieving balanced tracks across all teams.

You are responsible for your entire submitted repertoire during the auditions and the semi-finals. Usually during the semi-finals, the judges will ask for pieces from your submitted repertoire that they did not hear in the auditions. In the Finals you may design a program using pieces from your submitted repertoire or any other piece(s) you have by memory. That is, the Finals offer an opportunity for you to showcase your musicianship in the way you think best.

Transfer students must first send an unofficial copy of their transcripts to the engineering advising staff. This is in addition to the official transcript you had your college/s send to the UCSC Admissions Office. The staff will evaluate what credit you will get toward the major and contact you about what classes you should be taking in your first quarter on campus. Each regional final will last approximately 2 hours. Make sure you have a snack before you come; you can't eat in the theatre!

The teams that advance to the Finals will have 10 minutes to formally present their business plan and answer questions from a panel of judges. Each judge has $5 million MoshPit dollars to invest in any combination of teams. After the presentations, the judges will make their investment decisions. to 14 bands play in the same night (in the Regional Finals there are also the band/s coming from the other finals. The guest band/s always play in the middle of the night). Each one performs for 20-22 minutes. The change over in between the bands in 2-3 minutes. During the Final there are no good or bad slot to play: all slots are equal. To be really fair to every band performing we don't give out the exact time of the show. The night is divided into three 1,5 hour slots.

Neutralization is the process of compensating for the inter-electrode capacitance of the final tubes. It helps prevent the tubes from oscillating, and allows them to perform as a stable amplifier. Here is a simple sequence for neutralizing your finals: Turn your SG (Screen Grid voltage) switch OFF. This effectively turns off your finals, and will prevent them from putting any power into your measurement setup.

Whenever you change finals, you must read and understand the following information whether they are NOS U.S. or of foreign manufacture. Absolutely every time you change the finals in your Kenwood, you MUST do two things: (1) You must adjust the bias for the new tubes, and (2) you MUST neutralize the new tubes. Simple stuff, but you have to take these two steps to avoid problems. Whenever you install new finals, the following steps for adjusting the bias MUST be followed. Install the new tubes.

Refunds for the Telecom Fee will be handled the same way they are for house dues. The fee won't be prorated - rather, you will get a full credit if you move out before a certain point, and no credit after that. Currently, refunds are approved for housing contracts ending before the fifth Saturday of the quarter. The refund will happen automatically when you get refunded for room & board.

Most students opt for the two-year program for working professionals. They complete two 3-credit courses each term, taken back-to-back to enable them to focus on one course at a time. Students in the full-time, one-year, program complete four courses each term, two at a time.

Most swim meets in Pacific are timed finals. In a meet of this type, only heats are swum, and the final placing in an event is determined by the times achieved in these heats. Some meets, usually at a higher level of competition, are trials and finals. In these meets, trials are swum early in the day, and the fastest swimmers in trials qualify for finals, swum later in the day, in which the final placing for an event is determined.

No, Artists may not compete as a Top 5 finalist on more than one stage. If you are voted into the Final 5 on multiple stages you will have to select one stage to continue on with.

The classrooms on campus do not have the same schedule during finals week. Your classroom may be in use during your normal instructional period by another class. Your room designee can provide you with the location of your final exam.

The Finals will consist of two rounds. Casual/Sports Wear, and of course Swim Wear. (see the rules for more info)

There is no official final exam schedule for Summer Semester. Refer to the course syllabus or ask your instructor for exam information.

For the heat event, the format will be that of a written paper. The paper will probably contain both multiple choice questions and fill in the blanks questions. You will not be asked to write long programs in the heat paper. For more details, see the past paper section of the reference materials. For the final event, you will be given 4-5 programming tasks, and you will be required to write solutions (complete, compilable programs) on a computer and hand them in a soft-copy format.

Unlike most other programming assignments / exams that you may have taken before, we are not concerned with how you write your program. In fact, for the purposes of judging your program, we do not even look into your program at all. Instead, we run your program through several (normally 10-20) "test cases". For each test case, some input is given to your program, and the output of your program is compared to the correct output.

Judges are instructed to take into account the plan evaluation criteria, the presentation and Q & A sessions and their personal assessment of the potential of the venture. Following the last presentation, judges review each entry and come to a consensus opinion on which team will move forward. This decision is made separately from any other judging track and judges do not know other teams that will be moving forward.

The jury will award technical prizes to any of the 14 bands performing in the Final. During the final the judging is shared in between the public and the jury. At the end of each performance the public votes by show of hands. When the last performance is over, the jury will meet and chose the best musicians which will receive the technical prizes. After that, we will give them the names of the 6 bands with the top votes as per the public.
