Very few dogs exhibit a desire to chew their own personal beds. Always make sure there are appropriate toys & treats to keep your dog's attention in the crate. Crate Wear bumpers help protect his teeth from the wire bars and can be sprayed with a taste deterrent like Bitter Apple. It's better to chew on a toy or on a Crate Wear Bumper than to chew the crate's metal bars, which can result in expensive veterinary bills and permanent tooth damage.

Some people feel that crating their dog is like putting them in prison. I personally disagree. I have 3 dogs and all 3 are different ages and sizes, but all can equal a lot of trouble!! I crate them when I am at work, when I go to bed and when I am going to be out of the house for a couple hours. They LOVE going into their "dens" mostly because they each get a treat when they go in. I make sure that the crates are large enough for each pet to turn and stand.

Answer Crate training is a great way to help your dog feel comfortable and secure while you are away and will protect your house from damage caused by anxious pups. When you are gone dogs can either sleep or get in trouble. If you limit their options by providing a site where all they can do is sleep, you will save your house and protect your pet from harm. Get a crate of adequate size (large enough to allow your dog to stand and move comfortably) to accommodate your dog.

Dogs chew because they are relaxing, teething, are bored or are stressed. Ensure your home is puppy proofed, that anything your dog can get at is put away. Anything that can't be put away spray with a dog repellent ( bitter apple), give your dog a little taste by putting some on your finger then putting your finger in the dogs mouth so they get a taste.

Most veterinarians do not recommend allowing dogs to chew on real bones. Bones are either too soft and result in fragments which can cause GI tears or obstruction or the bones are too hard and lead to fractured teeth. Contrary to popular belief, domestic dogs are not just like their wild cousins (wolves, coyotes, and foxes). Commercially available chew toys are the best for our pets.

Most dogs will chew the Easy Brush without training. It is never too late to crate train your dog! The number one reason dogs end up in shelters is behavior problems. Crate training, at any age, can help break bad habits and solve most of these problems.

The best way to avoid losing your shoes, couch, etc., is to SUPERVISE! Even if you are in the same room but distracted, it is better to put your puppy in the crate for a few minutes than to let him figure out that chair legs taste good! Dogs will go through ups and downs in their behavior for about the first two years, so don’t give them too much freedom too soon. For example, I wouldn’t leave a dog loose in the house while I’m gone until they are at least two years old.

There are many chew bones made from natural ingredients available to dog owners today. Spearmint, carrot, and several fruit flavors are available as well as the traditional meat flavors. Chews should be too large to fit completely in the dog's mouth, naturally colored, and molded in one piece. Rawhides should preferably be American-made, unbleached, and the correct size. Cow ears contain less fat than pig ears and are better suited for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

When collagen in the skin dries out, it becomes stiff. As your dog chews, the saliva moistens and softens the rawhide. Smooth shiny areas on a chew are a sign of heat breakdown indicating an extremely hard area that the dog may not be able to soften.

The crate is an extremely valuable behavior management tool. It takes much of the pain out of puppy-raising by keeping your pup safely confined when you can't directly supervise her. Puppies are usually housetrained in a surprisingly short time with the use of a crate, and the crate gives you peace of mind, knowing that your dog isn't peeing and pooping all over the house, or chewing on electric cords and antique furniture when you're not there to watch her.

A crate is not essential to weight pulling, but I strongly suggest you purchase one. Tie-out areas at pulls are usually pretty small, so crates are usually a good idea. When your dog is in a crate you do not have to worry about him/her being bothered by spectators or loose dogs.

Again, make sure the crate is in a good location. Veterinarians and trainers recommend covering the crate to give your dog the privacy he needs to feel secure. If your dog can see you, he'll want to be with you outside the crate. Crate covers lower the amount of distractions your dog sees, which reduces barking and stress. Note: Dogs that suffer from separation anxiety should not be crated.

You may use sugar-free gum or mints but limit these to five per day. These products contain sorbitol which can cause gastric distress as well as stimulate appetite.

Put your puppy in a small pet carrier or crate while you are busy or gone. Puppies will not use the bathroom where they sleep. Once you get home or the puppy starts crying, immediately take them outside or to the area they are to use the bathroom. Always reward them with a treat. This is supposed to be a very effective way to train your dog. If the crate or cage is too big, however, it will not work. There is lots of good information on the web on how to crate train a dog.
