A student who doesn't take the WASL may miss out on having any learning issues identified sooner rather than later. These students also may miss out on the academic help paid for by the state and federal government; this help is often attached to an individual students test scores. High school students who do not take and pass the High School WASL will not graduate.

If your child's scores are very close, you may wish to have him/her take the tests the next time offered. Or the tests can be taken again in future years. Bear in mind the scores needed to qualify increase as the child's grade increases. Special instructions for 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 grade students who will take the SCAT within the same year: Students may retake the SCAT at a later date to attempt to establish their eligibility. Students make take the SCAT up to two times per academic year.

If the Juvenile Division decides that it is necessary to remove a child from the home, several possibilities exist: in a foster or group home Where the child goes depends on the needs of the child. The court will order that the parents and the child protection agency work together to reunite the family as quickly as possible. Court hearings are held at least every six months if a child is removed from the home to make sure that efforts are being made to bring the child safely back home.

If your child is identified with a hearing impairment you will be referred to the appropriate services for advice and support.  It is really important that children receive assistance as early as possible in order to give them the best possible chance of reaching their full potential in language, learning and social development.

CPS and/or law enforcement typically receive reports of maltreatment and determine what sort of response is warranted in each case. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the report, law enforcement or CPS may make an initial visit to the home to ensure the child's immediate safety. In the most serious cases, law enforcement will intervene to provide immediate safety for all parties and decide whether an arrest or further criminal investigation is warranted.
