For Macintosh computers running OS 9.xx, one reason may be that in your control panel, TCP/IP properties, “Load only when needed” is checked. This should be unchecked on your Data Station and your Librarian Workstation. In addition, your network must be up, your Data Station must be running, and your Data Station must have a static IP address.

WinTally connects to the update server on port 80 and using the HTTP protocol (just as a web browser does). If you are behind a proxy server WinTally will currently not be able to auto-upgrade, a future version will have the ability to work through proxy servers. For now you will just have to check the WinTally website (wintally.vehiclecounts.com) for new versions... download them there, uninstall your old one, and install the new version.

This is usually because the machine address cannot be resolved or because the diagmond daemon is not running on the machine that is being connected to. If diagmond is not running on the host machine, log into the host machine, run STM on it, and use the File-->Administration-->Local UUT Logs command to view the log files on the host machine and determine what the problem is. Are you currently running additional "modem occupying" software? Software such as this grabs your modem and won't let go (i.e. PC Anywhere). Please shut down those programs.
