All of our laptops, apart from the "basic laptops" are suitable to go on the internet. Some come with a built-in modem, but for those that don't, we can supply one from just £20 for a PCMCIA (credit card type) modem with a cable. If you buy your modem at the same time as your laptop, it will come fully configured to dial up to our free internet service where you only pay for a local call on your normal telephone bill.

In the Washington area, you may bring equipment. All bags and carrying cases must be left in lockers outside of the research room. Flatbed scanners without sheet feeders are allowed. When you are using a scanner, you must show it to the research room staff and receive special instructions. More information on using scanners. Student lockers are equipped with locking rings (for use with a padlock). If students bring locks to school, their iBooks can be put into their lockers and locked when not in use. Alternatively, we’ll have locking cabinets in the classrooms where laptops can be kept between classes and overnight. Classrooms are locked when not in use, and the cabinets will be locked at night. Another option will be supervised charging cabinets in the MS computer lab.

Given my rather strained resources, that dream may not materialize. If you can, I would suggest bringing a laptop with you to work on. There are many benefits to that for your team, among them that you don't need to worry about using an unfamiliar system and you will not have extremely limited time using the computer.

The extent of computer use in the classroom is at the discretion of the instructor. Some may require you to bring your computer to every meeting, others may only require them periodically while some may not use laptops in their class at all. The instructor will inform the students when the laptops are needed.

If you are an ACU student, staff or facutly member, you can get to the internet from any of the lab computers in the library by logging in with your ACU account or from a Public Access Computer (PAC). If you are not an ACU student, staff or faculty member, you can use the internet at PACs around the library.

Work with your kids to create an online agreement that outlines the rights and obligations of computer use at home. Your children's input is critical to the success of the agreement. Make sure the agreement covers: Print the rules out and keep them by the family computer to remind everyone of the rules. Review it regularly, and update it as your kids get older.
