When you breathe and your diaphragm moves, this movement can blur the image. You will also be asked to hold very still while your X-ray is being taken.

Patients are often asked to hold their breath; depending on the part being examined, this may be on inspiration or expiration. This is so the chest and abdominal organs will not be moving and "blurred" on the films.

Not absolutely necessary. Clinical research has shown that an optimum period of 20 seconds breath hold is required to get the best correlation with COHb. A 15-second breath hold gives almost the same correlation. Less than this will depress the breath reading. However, as long as the person is encouraged to exhale completely, this 'end-tidal' breath sample will give a good indication.

AMI and x-ray are complementary techniques that are both frequently found in the same laboratories. They have important differences with regards to what they reveal in a sample. X-rays can be used to see inside a sample based upon material density differences. Dense materials are more opaque to x-radiation and penetration is more limited through metals compared with ceramics or polymers.

The maximum x-ray energy you need is determined by your sample. Thinner, low-density materials (e.g. plastics) require less x-ray energy than, for example, metals or very thick parts. You also want to make sure that your source has sufficient power to provide enough x-ray flux to give you a useful image signal-to-noise ratio. a rule of thumb, materials such as plastic or circuit boards are typically imaged at 50-70 kVp (kVp = peak x-ray energy; i.e. your source voltage setting).

If TB disease is present, it is probably in the lungs. If your skin test is positive, you will be asked to get a chest x-ray on the day of your skin test reading. If you are having a non-invasive procedure, the only discomfort should be lying flat on a hard table or a cold feeling if your skin comes in contact with some of the equipment. The NOMAD is not just a tube in hand, but a self-contained x-ray system including internal shielding to protect the user from direct tube exposure and an external scatter shield that absorbs direct backscattered radiation from the patient. Radiation exposure from leakage and backscatter radiation is far below federal and occupational limits. Annual dose from using NOMAD is far less than normal background radiation exposure. Allergies to shellfish or iodine need to be pre-medicated before you are injected with contrast media. Tell your doctor about your allergies. You will be asked again about any allergies before you have a test that involves taking contrast material and the technologist or nurse will make sure you are pre-medicated.

The first year fee is pro-rated by quarters: $ 44.00 per tubehead if installed and used during the first quarter, $ 33.00 if in the second quarter, $ 22.00 if in the third quarter and $ 11.00 if installed in the last quarter. Each year following the first year there is an annual fee of $44.00 per tubehead. The fee notice is usually mailed the third week in November and is due by the following January 1st. Failure to pay the annual fee becomes a violation after April 1st.

No. The regulations do not call for a specific preventive maintenance schedule. The Agency recommends, however, that a regular cleaning and calibration schedule for the equipment be established. A simple light field / x-ray field congruency test should be performed by the owner at least once per quarter.

X-rays can show decay that may not normally be seen directly in the mouth, for example: under a filling, or between teeth. They can show whether you have an infection in the root of your tooth and how severe the infection is. In children an x-ray can show any teeth that haven’t come through yet, and let the dentist see whether there is enough space for the teeth to come through.
