Parasites can infect your pet any time of year. While external parasites, such as fleas and ticks, may be less of a problem during certain times of the year, depending on where you live, internal parasites (worms) can be present year-round. That's why it's important to consult with your veterinarian to implement a year-round parasite control program.

Eliminating the parasitic infection is the key to relieving the symptoms of infection, or the parasites will continue to grow and reproduce. Health care professionals use a variety of treatments to eliminate parasites, including antiparasitic drugs, diet changes and adding "friendly" bacteria to your gastrointestinal tract.

Animals in the summer are very susceptible to heat stroke, dehydration, and maggot infestations. If your dog or cat is outdoors most of the time, it is essential to have a nice shaded area to lie in and plenty of water to drink. Some people ask about shaving their animals; if they have access to a pond or pool, or just watering your animal with a hose will help with cooling. Remember, dogs and cats can't sweat, they pant to keep cool.

The contracts are for 12 months. The reason for this is that it costs a school a lot of money to hire a teacher. Between the flight, visa process, training, and human resource fees, they put quite an investment in every teacher they hire. Due to the large number of internal and external parasites and the high risk of pet infection, controlling parasites year-round is the most reliable way to ensure the highest level of health for your pet and well-being of your family. Year-round prevention is the most effective way to control cat and dog parasites and the diseases they can carry.

Most intestinal parasites can be diagnosed through a physical examination and the microscopic analysis of your pet’s feces. Your veterinarian can conduct the examination and fecal tests to determine if your pet has worms and then prescribe the appropriate treatment or preventive program.

You should ask your groomer to specifically explain what prompted them to reach this conclusion. (i.e. Do they believe it is an intestinal or skin parasite?) Although there are qualified groomers who could probably make such a conclusion, we highly recommend that your pet be seen by a veterinarian so that if any parasites are present they can be properly diagnosed and treated. If you believe that your pet may have an intestinal parasite a fresh stool should also be screened. (see question #8)

Parasites can be found in the feces of your pet. Some types of parasites can be found in the pet's bedding and around the anus. Because many parasite infections do not involve observable symptoms, it is important to visit your veterinarian regularly. Roundworms can cause a pot-bellied appearance in puppies and poor growth. Some signs of other types of internal parasites in your pet include a decrease in appetite, bloody stools, diarrhea and/or a decrease in activity level.

Although it is better to prevent internal parasites than to bear the cost and inconvenience of treatments and discomfort to your pet, dewormer prescriptions are available from your veterinarian. If your pet does have parasites, it is important to take him or her to the veterinarian as soon as possible, as some cases can be life threatening.

We have a three month rate (that can be extended monthly) that will be just the ticket for you. When you plan to start your travels, go to your local postmaster, and put in a temporary change of address here (normally, your local post office will do this for up to six months!) When you finish traveling for the summer, simply have your postmaster stop the forwarding.

The Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board issues rules and regulations under which all Veterinarians in the state operate under. These rules include the requirement that for each medical procedure a valid doctor to patient relationship exists. If your pet has not been seen recently for the condition which is being treated then the law requires another examination. Please remember that this is to protect your pet's health.

parasites are present in your particular shelter population. However, there are some general guidelines for deworming that could apply to nearly all shelter populations. For example, in puppies and kittens, roundworms and hookworms are ubiquitous. While we begin taking reservations in January for spring and fall weekends, as well as summer vacation stays, we do not begin reserving shorter summer stays of less than 7 nights until two months prior to your desired date of arrival. This allows an opportunity for families looking to make their vacation plans a chance to do so. If we were to allow all summer dates to be reserved in January, most weekends would fill up quickly, essentially locking out anyone wishing to make a vacation stay.

It depends on the type of pet you have as the symptoms vary with each pet. A reptile will be lethargic, slow to grow, lose weight, and the odor from its fesces may be particularly bad. It may develop strange bumps on skin. A dog may have a rough coat, pot belly, bad breath, general failure to thrive, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. Parasites can also cause meningitis, encephalitis, and other central nervous system disorders.

There is no requirement that pet food products have premarket approval by FDA. The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act does require that pet foods, like human foods, be pure and wholesome, contain no harmful or deleterious substances, and be truthfully labeled. Parasites are much more common in the United States and other developed countries than you may realize. They also cause many diarrheal diseases, which can lead to serious illness and even death. An intestinal parasite can weaken your body's natural immune system, making you more susceptible to other illnesses. The frequency of world travel and increased immigration to the United States has resulted in the significant spread of parasitic infection.

Intestinal parasites are organisms that live within the intestinal tract, growing and feeding off your body. They range from visible worms (like tapeworms and pinworms) to microscopic organisms such as Giardia lamblia.

Many symptoms of a parasitic infection are similar to other illnesses, making it particularly important to test for parasites for proper diagnosis and treatment. A comprehensive parasite test, using a stool sample analyzed by a laboratory specializing in parasite testing, is the most effective way to diagnose this type of infection.

Don't drink unfiltered or untreated water, no matter how pure it looks. Drink bottled or boiled water when traveling in undeveloped countries. A parasitic infection can happen to almost anyone, not just world travelers. Complete this checklist to determine if your health problems could be caused by parasites.

It all depends on the severity – on the damage being done. (See discussion on the previous question, above.) Those with occasional, mild acne who are not troubled by it may well choose not to bother with treatment. But, if the acne is significantly impacting one’s comfort or self-confidence, it is time to take action. And, without question, if the acne is substantial and risks permanent scarring, everything possible should be done to bring it under control.

Many problems can be treated upon your initial visit. Return treatments are scheduled only when necessary.

With an infestation of Sarcoptic mange, you should treat all of the pets, as they could have larva or mites on their body, but are not yet symptomatic. With demodectic mange, it is not necessary.
