Ceramic is best cut using a special diamond saw. Small prototype parts can be cut from piezoceramic sheet stock by using a razor blade and a straight edge to score the piezo surface and then making a controlled break. Even with practice this method does not yield straight-sided parts or repeatable cuts. Use at your own risk.

Preferred method is a B-2 Beverly Shear. Electric shears and even nibblers will also work. Cheaper methods include: a jigsaw with metal-cutting blade [look for at least 18tpi blades, and cut patiently, not forcing it]; hacksaw or jeweler's/coping saw; chisel.

A good quality Carbide Tipped Triple Chip saw blade is preferred when cutting Plexiglas. This reduces the amount of chipout on the opposite side of the material and produces a smooth edge. A Router can be used to cut Plexiglas as well. The Router should be at least 1.5 HP or better and with changeable collets for a 0.5" Shank quality 2 flute Carbide bit. This reduces the vibration and chattering when cutting and will produce a more smooth edge.

The slot should be cut 1 1/2" down from the center of the ridge on both sides. This is the same if you have trusses or a 2X ridge board. Use a Fletcher Terry Knife or a plastic cutting tool when cutting the sheet. This method can be used for sheet thicknesses of .250" and thinner. Scibbing the sheet should be done at least 7 to 12 times for .250" material and 5 to 7 times for .187" and under. It is best to support the bottom of the sheet on both sides of the score line.
