We chose to use Flash video (FLV) because it is the “safest” video platform meaning that the most people can view the videos without having to download extra software. Flash video is used by all the major video sharing sites (YouTube, MetaCafe, Revver and DailyMotion to name a few) and only requires the Flash Plug-in to play. Windows Media (WMV) files only play on PCs running Microsoft Windows and many people don’t have QuickTime installed.

We used to use a custom video player of our own design but it was too taxing on our server and didn’t allow external embedding so after much research we chose to switch to Brightcove. With the new player you can watch all the videos on our front page, embed our videos on your own website if you want and email your favouriets to family and friends.

While the video is playing, press Ctrl+I (that's I for Ivory). Save as BMP to preserve the most quality. Another way is to reduce the Video Acceleration to None and using the good ol' Print Screen button. However, restore back the Video Acceleration once you're done as it could affect video performance. Windows Media Audio (.wma) produces a better sound in a smaller file size but mp3 is more universal, especially in some portable players. All of the sermons on TheOnLineWord.com are available in mp3 format but you must type the web address (url) directly into your browser or click mp3 after a sermon search. The mp3 web address of ALL sermons will be: where xxxx is the four-digit sermon number. Virtually any computer music player will play mp3 files on almost any operating system.

In the Windows Live Photo Gallery, QuickTime videos are displayed if you have QuickTime installed. However, in the Windows Vista Photo Gallery there is no compatible codec available for Quicktime video files, so this is not yet possible. Now in Encore CS3, included with Premiere Pro CS3, you can create an SWF file as a choice from the Build Window. Select Format: Flash Download the trial version of Adobe / Macromedia Flash. The fastest way would be to use a 3rd party program such as dreamweaver. It can embed the flv video into a player with controls. There are many programs that will do this. Others may know the apps. I would personally stay away from using flash until you get some more working knowledge of what you want to do with flash. Use the wmv or mov options for easier delivery of content to the web. I do this to save on both bandwidth and download times. Unfortunately, I am not able to host MPEG's because the bandwidth limitations, and their file sizes. The "Official Video's" are hosted as high quality WMV also. These video's are all direct DVD Rips which helps to conserve the high quality and crispness of the picture. Though these video's are small in filesize, they are in most cases higher quality than most of the MPEG files you will find.

To compress audio you will need the QuickTime Pro Player from Apple Computer, or any other application which supports QuickTime export in order to encode audio. If you are using QuickTime Pro please follow the instructions found below. If you are using another application please follow the instructions that accompany the software.

The UGA Streaming Server supports on-demand streaming of all three types. However, the UGA Streaming Server only supports live streaming of QuickTime or RealMedia. You may use whichever format you prefer.

Advection.NET’s primary streaming servers serve Windows Media content, both audio and video. There are many reasons for this, but the main one is cost for any given level of quality.
