PIXImus stores all bone, tissue, animal biographical data, ROI locations, ROI dimensions, date\time of acquisition data, plus a whole lot more, in a text file. This text file is easily imported to almost every statistical spreadsheet program available.

PIXImus II utilizes Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) technology. A small x-ray source exposes the entire animal to a cone shaped beam of both high and low energy x-rays. A high-resolution digital picture (0.18x0.18mm) is taken of an image of the x-rays hitting a luminescent panel. The ratio of attenuation of the high and low energies allows the PIXImus to separate bone from tissue and, from within the tissue samples, the lean and fat.

Accuracy was initially determined using phantoms of known values in the research labs at Lunar and a correlation study between the PIXImus and gravimetric and chemical extraction techniques was performed by one of their test sites. The test site utilized C57BL/J6 mice weighing between 19-29 grams (n=25), a Soxhlet, and petroleum ether. Precision was determined at test sites where they found the PIXImus to be highly precise on both tissue and bone results when live mice (n=25, 19-29g) were imaged three times each. The mean intra-individual coefficient of variation (CV) was: lean tissue mass 0.86%, fat mass 1.60%, BMC 1.60% and BMD 0.84%. Analysis of in vivo mouse femurs (n=27) have excellent precision at 3.31% for BMC and 1.20% for BMD (see the abstract section for details of these and studies).

All of the data KPilot saves from your Pilot goes into directories underneath the KDE configuration directory. This is often .kde/ in your home directory, but may be some different value. Check the value of the environment variable $KDEHOME for a hint. Underneath $KDEHOME, you will find share/apps/kpilot. The fundamental storage type in Mercurial is a "revlog". A revlog is the set of all revisions of a named object. Each revision is either stored compressed in its entirety or as a compressed binary delta against the previous version. A bone graft is bone that is taken from one area and moved to another. During spinal surgery, this is done to help facilitate the fusion process. The bone graft posses certain structural and biologic properties that enhance a bony fusion of the vertebrae. Bone graft can be obtained from a patient's pelvis (autograft) or it can come from a bone bank (allograft).

Most patients who have had spinal fusion surgery do complain for some time of the bone graft donor site. The majority of these patients do not report significant discomfort after six months. There is, however, a subset of patients who chronically complain about this problem. There are not many good avenues to pursue for the full relief of this pain.

Yes, the 'fh' filed is for this purpose. This filed may be set in the open() and create() methods, and is available in all other methods having a struct fuse_file_info parameter. Note, that changing the value of 'fh' in any other method as open() or create() will have no affect. Since the type of 'fh' is unsigned long, you need to use casts when storing and retrieving a pointer. Under Linux (and most other architectures) an unsigned long will be able to hold a pointer.
