Can you chrome my parts?
Custom Powder CoatingNo. We found a company that does a very nice job re-chroming bumpers and restoring trim for old cars. Send us a Free Quote describing what you need and we will put you in contact with them. We can powder coat but we can't sandblast the metal. The reason we can't sandblast the metal is because it will warp. In general, you only want to sandblast heavy gauge metal such as wheels, frames, suspension parts, drive shafts, etc.
Related QuestionsWhat if my parts are chrome plated when I bring them to you?
Nor Cal Powder Coating - Production Painting At Its Finest -...If your parts are chrome plated, we will sandblast the top layer of chrome away, leaving the copper and nickel layers. We will then check the part and the integrity of the remaining layers by pre-baking. Doing this will make sure the remaining layers of copper and nickel are well adhered to the substrate. Providing that the sandblasting and oven temperatures don't cause 'blistering', or lifting of the copper and nickel, we will then powder coat right over it.

Related QuestionsCan I powder coat over chrome parts?
E-Tech Powder Coating | Powder Coating FaqsYour substrate (part) which has chrome already on it will need to be media blasted to remove the top layer of chrome off. This will leave the copper and nickel coatings on the substrate (part). The coatings that are left on the substrate (part) are ok to be powder coat over, but we will need to pre-bake the part to make sure the coatings are stable. If the pre-bake cycle doesn’t blister the copper and nickel coatings we will then put the powder on.

Related QuestionsCan we chrome plate aluminum wheels?

At any time, a rock pit, scrape or deicing/harsh chemicals can break the seal between the plating and the alloy, allowing corrosion to start, resulting In bubbling under the chrome surface, then ultimately peeling. Solution, those wheels can be polished to as good or better of a finish than chrome, and with a little bit of maintenance, they can be kept that way.
