Any computer that has an Internet connection can access WebCT Vista. While the computers on campus are configured properly to use WebCT Vista, make sure your run a browser check from any off-campus machine to ensure you are using a supported browser and that the computer you are using is set up correctly. Vista uses pop up windows for certain functions such as assessments. Pop up blockers must be disabled on your computer to use WebCT Vista properly.

It depends. Vista and WebCT are generally accessible. The problem arises when items and documents are added to the learning management system without consideration to accessibility. For example, if streaming videos are added to the online environment, they need to have captions or at least transcripts for students who are deaf. Also, documents need to be accessible for screen readers, etc. Some PDF documents are not automatically accessible.

Web CT Vista is managed learning environment: a web-based resource area where you will find lecture notes, handouts, module material and also communication tools.

The server that WebCT runs on is a powerful computer and very seldom is it heavily loaded. Generally, the reason that WebCT's response is slow is due to network connections that a person uses to reach WebCT. The connection speed is no faster than the slowest network link between the client and the server. Most of these network links are not under the control of you, the customer, nor Rensselaer, the service provider.

Blackboard Vista is still the primary courseware used for conducting BCC online classes taught through the BCC Distance Education office. Teachers have the option to use either Vista or MyBCC Course Sites for communicating with their students. Students should ask their instructor each quarter how they intend to make class materials available to them.

BANNER Web is the EGC student information system that students use to do things such as view their course schedules, grades, financial aid status and related financial information, as well as register online. WebCT Vista is the EGC online course management system that students use to access online course materials, resources, etc., posted by faculty for the courses they teach. All EGC online courses utilize WebCT Vista.

Click the Log out link in the upper right hand corner of your screen. Vista sessions will automatically timeout after 60 minutes of inactivity. If you are accessing your Vista course from a computer center on campus or any other shared computer, make sure you close all web browser windows and log off the computer when you leave.

Establish an internet account: To access WebCT from home, you must first establish an account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP). An ISP is generally a private company not affiliated with Montana State which will provide access to the Internet. There is usually a monthly fee associated with the services of an ISP.

For basic course access, all you require is a web browser that has Java and Javascript enabled, and accepts cookies. You can use a variety of software programs to create your course materials, ranging from Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to HTML editors. You can also include any content in your course that can be displayed using a Web browser (e.g. PDF files, audio and video clips, animations, and graphics).

Since WebCT is internet-based, it is accessible from all computers in the lab. As certain features of WebCT differ between platforms (Macintosh and Windows), be certain to ask for assistance if you encounter any problems while using WebCT.

WebCT is a course management system that some instructors use to deliver their on-line materials. Besides providing access to on-line content, WebCT can also be used to deliver on-line exams and quizzes, provide individual students with access to their grades, and serve as an on-line discussion board. If your instructor is using WebCT it will appear when you access your course via the MyMCC portal. For more info on how to use WebCT, see the distance learning tutorial pages.

Your WebCT Vista username is the 8 digits of your student ID (also known as your Banner ID) with the @ symbol. For example, if your Banner ID is @12345678, then your username would be @12345678. Your WebCT Vista password is the same PIN you may have used when logging into the Connecticut Community Colleges Online System ( www.online.commnet.edu ). Your initial PIN for the CC Online System is your date of birth formatted as MMDDYY.

Once you are inside of WebCT Vista, you will see a "My WebCT" link at the top right of the screen. Click on the "My WebCT" link and you will see links to each of your courses.

Make sure you are entering the correct user name and password per your program's/campus' login protocol for Vista

To gain hands-on experience using WebCT tools, log onto the WebCT orientation course by going to: http://webct.armstrong.edu:8900/webct/homearea/homearea. Log in with the WebCT ID: start15 and WebCT Password: start15.

Only students registered in a course for which the instructor has chosen to use WebCT may access the course. Check with your instructor for confirmation.

The most probable reason is that your IT administrator has denied general access to unauthorised internet addresses. The solution is to request your IT administrator to grant you specific permission to access WebCT. See the answer above for information on firewall settings. You are not registered for this course(s), only students who are officially registered are allowed to access their course(s) on WebCT.

By adjusting your browser settings, you can optimize your browser for WebCT. Browser setting adjustment includes: (a) setting the browser cache, (b) enabling Java, (c) enabling cookies.
