You will need careful control of impression strength, so you don't smash your cutting die or wreck your press. You also need a "cutting jacket", a piece of steel plate that protects the platen of the press from the sharp edges of the cutting die.

I usually adjust the platen when I'm ready to run a job--no sense inking and washing a press just to adjust the monster. Get a cap M or H, 48 pt. or larger, preferably damaged but not squashed under type high. Tape a 2 pt. lead to the face. Find a piece of string a couple of feet long and tie one end around the sides of the type. Close the press, stopping it with the platen lock (under the delivery board) snapped into place and the rollers at the top of the plate.

Die cutting is the process of adding shapes or holes to printed pieces other than simple square corners and rectangular shapes. Printing follows the same steps, but instead of trimming, the cards are "die cut" much like a cookie cutter using a metal die made to match the desired shape.

First, you would mount the thin photopolymer plate onto a base like our Boxcar Base. This makes the surface of the photopolymer the same height as a piece of type (0.918” high). Then you would lock the base, which is a rectangular aluminum block, into the chase with quoins and furniture just like you would a handset type form. This should be much easier than working with lead type, however, since there's no small letters or pieces of spacing that could fall out or work up.

The scanning of gels (especially naked gels) and blots containing stains or other fluorescent compounds may leave fluorescent residues on the platen and/or sample press. These may show up in subsequent scans, obscuring or altering the intensity/profile of protein spots in the 2-D DIGE gel. The shank size of regular top die (stud/socket) is 3/8'' and the bottom die (cap) is 1/2''. Measure the shank size your die set or the diameter of the hole that holds die in your snap press. If they aren't the same as our regular die size, then these regular die sets don't fit. However, we do carry customized die set in addition to the regular ones. I always recommend JB Weld. JB Weld has a high temperature rating than most other epoxies on the market and has proven to be very effective. If you use a lesser epoxy, it may be prudent to build a small "lip" at the bottom of the platen liner that will "catch" it if your epoxy should let loose.

However, the optimum speed will depend on tap diameter and pitch, material t pe, and material thickness being tapped, as well as press stroke and tapping stroke. When applying snaps, the rule of thumb is that you get the best result when you use the snaps, die set and press from the same manufacturer. If you have a different brand press with dies and want to use our snaps, your output can be guaranteed when you use our customized die set along with our snaps. If you're not sure about the compatibility, always ask for a sample to test. Also test the output by snapping a dozen of time to ensure a good fixing.

Generally speaking no. A plier will work fine on paper but will not give a quality full size impression on card. It will give a small impression on card such as a date mark or lets say a 10mm dia logo. For impressions that are to go on a variety of weights of paper a larger press is the only safe option. If the extremities of paper or card are to great say 80gsm- 250gsm the same die set will not give perfect results.

The ceramix platen liners are made to be epoxied onto the metal platen that comes on most belt grinder. The material has a low coefficient of friction and is very flat. This often reduces the heating effect of the belts in use as well as helps to minimize "belt bump" while using finer grit belts. The flatness of them aids in doing flat grinds and the raised edges help improve defined plung cuts.

with most things we deal with, the ceramic platen liners should be viewed as consummable items. They only cost as much as two or three good grinding belts. The lifetime you will experience with your ceramic platen liner is dependent on several factors, such as the frequency with which you grind, whether or not you use your platen to profile on (not a good idea), etc. They will eventually wear if you tend to grind in the same position all of the time.
