We recommend your staff use both programs. The Electronic Writing Course teaches staff how to write clearly; StyleWriter puts theory into practice. In one organization they tested both programs. In the first semester of their first year, all entering students, except transfer students and those enrolled in University College, are automatically registered in writing courses based on their performance on the SATs and the Rutgers University Placement Test: Level 1 exam. University College students and transfer students receive instructions from their colleges about the results of their placement tests and how to register for a course at the appropriate level.

If you want to drop a Writing Program class, you need to meet with the Academic Dean of your college. If your Dean grants your request to drop the course, she/he will contact the Writing Program to obtain a special permission number. Generally, there are no special technical requirements. Almost any computer will do. Besides Internet Access, many courses require that you can read PDF files. You can easily access almost all the courses with a slow or landline Internet connection. Exceptions are the courses that have very large articles, which will take a long time to download, if they can be downloaded at all.
