Columbia's Psychology Department is relatively small; each year it admits about 12 full-time students. Such a highly selective system affords graduate students the opportunity to become acquainted with all department research conducted by faculty and fellow students.

For the Ph.D and academic M.S. programs, we receive between 100-250 applications a year. Depending on our available funding slots, we are able to admit between 4-7 new students each year. Yes. There are a large number of courses offered in the Business School that are pertinent for I/O psychology, and they are often taught by faculty who received their training in I/O psychology. Students from I/O tend to take courses in the Business School (and students from the OB Ph.D. program in the Business School also tend to take courses in our program).

Between 100 to 120 students in the five programmes are admitted each year for the five programmes. Out of this, 65 to 70 students will be enrolled in the Dual Masters degree track.

The department expects the students to keep the deadlines set by the teachers. Those who are not accustomed to the rigorous schedule of deadlines find it difficult to cope up with training in the department. The Departments of Psychology and Sociology share a lab space which is equipped for computer controlled experimentation and behavioral observation. We do not have facilities for animal research, but we do have contacts with researchers at UAB for students who might be interested in animal research.

To answer this question, one must understand that Samford is both a college of the church and a liberal arts college. This means that Samford supports and upholds the Christian tradition while also promoting open enquiry and the free expression of ideas. We do not see these activities as contradictory.

We do not offer a terminal master’s degree. The Ph.D. track involves first obtaining a Master's degree. After completing coursework and other requirements, including a Qualifying Examination, students begin dissertation research that leads to the doctoral degree.
