BEHINDtheBEAT's editorial process is similar to that of many other music magazines. We're journalists covering the music world, focusing on new releases. In deciding which new releases to cover, we make judgments about both the quality of the work and the level of public interest. We try to balance our coverage between who's hot, and who deserves to be.

Typical character conversations will all occur as subtitles, with full-voice only in cutscenes. Full voicing the entire game would have required about 8 CDs.

The art committee meet several times a year to discuss the applications. For some organised programmes there are deadlines but for self directed residencies, applications can be accepted at any time of the year.

The majority of the styles ? apart from the oil paintings ? are done by Illustrators and Graphic artists. Each portrait can take up to 15 hours to complete and will involve several different techniques. We have two artists who do our oil paintings ? one specialising in pets and the other in people. They work in the traditional way.

in any profession, the first step is to develop your skills and vocal quality through professional guidance and training with group classes, or private lessons. As your skills develop, the next step is to promote yourself as a voice-over artist. This is normally done by recording a CD demo of your vocal talents and distributing them to agencies casting for voice-over talent. [Top]

MGI helps voice-over artists in several ways from training to promotion. MGI also offers bimonthly workshops for artists to continue developing their skills and techniques as voice-over artists. All members have the opportunity to post their demo and bio as part of the MGI talent pool section of the official MGI website, making their talents and works easily accessible to casting directors searching for new talent.

ACA residencies are not product driven, although many artists complete new and existing projects while in residence. Many artists come with specific personal goals and objectives, and are self motivated to work towards those ends. Many artists see the residency as an opportunity for research and development within their discipline.

Each artistic discipline has its own panel of out-of state jurors to review fellowship applications; all panels base fellowship review and selection on artistic excellence and artistic merit. Fellowship panels are comprised of nationally respected artists, educators and critics, and are selected for their expertise and aesthetic breadth.

The AE Artist Roster includes, but is not limited to, poets, prose writers, screen writers, dancers, choreographers, actors, directors, film/video makers, performance artists, folk artists, storytellers, painters, sculptors, photographers, puppet makers, printmakers, ceramists, mural makers (painted, clay, etc.), paper makers, book makers, textile artists, calligraphers, composers, vocalists, instrumentalists and computer graphic artists.

One role of a music publisher is to provide songs for recording artists who do not write their own material. However this is an extremely competitive field and limited. Successful writers need to have not only hit songs but also high quality, well-produced demos that will compete with the best international material. Currently, the areas where there is the most demand for songs are pop, dance pop, RnB and adult contemporary - but even then, don't get your hopes up.

I would really like to have sound clips of every artist I feature on these pages too, but the problem is that it isn't legal (and even if the risk of getting caught is slim, I don't want risk getting in trouble). For the sound clips you'll find here, I have full permission from the original artist/writer, who also holds all the rights to the song.

Some of the skills needed are: The ability to make it sound like it is “the first time”, in other words, when you are doing a record and the director asks you to “do it again” and “one more time” for about the 10th time, you have to make it sound fresh, as if you have never said it before. Another skill needed is, believe it or not, the ability to “Be a Professional.” This is the most basic and a skill anyone from any profession could benefit from.

Use longer focal lengths instead of shorter (telephoto instead of wide angle). This will make your subject's face more natural and less bulbous. Use a wide aperture for shallow depth of field. This will focus attention on your subject and not your background. Try to achieve even illumination by exploiting natural light. If you can't use natural light, then use studio lights and/or multiple flashes and/or a bounce flash.

When referring to sounds being recorded, audio is all sounds, while voice refers specifically to people speaking. Specialized compression can be used to reduce the amount of background noise to produce a clear crisp "voice recording".

DCLA convenes a unique artist selection panel at the initiation of each project.  The architect presents the project to the panel and may recommend specific artists or concepts. The panel then recommends sites for the art work and an artist to be commissioned or an art work to be purchased. This recommendation is based on the architect's proposal, the nature of the community and the building's functions.

artist selection panel typically convenes early in the design stage so that the artist can be involved from the beginning.  The art work is considered an integral part of the project process rather than an addition at the project’s completion.

Having a “great voice” does not guarantee that you will be successful in the voice-over industry. Producers and directors are not only looking for great voices, but often specific voice styles and vocal quality. However, you’ll never know until you try! [Top]

Generally, if there are no images being displayed for a particular artist we were unable to locate a usable image of the artist. This is more common on channels that do not play current music. Deceased and living artists that have not released a single or album in the recent past or are not actively promoting their music also may not have photos displayed when their music is playing due to our inability to locate a usable artist image.
