China Lake Camps staff assess each of these children on an individual basis. We want your child to have a great camp experience and a safe one.

We want to ensure that all children are safe whilst at camp, so please do discuss this with the Bookings Secretary on 01904 767764 before a booking is made. Whilst all campers are supervised by Camp Leaders, we cannot guarantee the level of support that some children may require. A medical form will be sent out for all campers, and we do ask that you tell us about any allergies, asthma, medication, etc.

Yes, you may homeschool your special needs child. If your child has been identified as a special needs child you are required to indicate that on your CPI form. Before submitting your CPI form you will need to get permission from your local AEA. The rules state that the request for approval for placement under Competent Private Instruction by the parent or guardian may be presented to the special education director at any time during the calendar year.

Most dietary needs can be accommodated to some degree but should you want to discuss a particular need please contact the School Catering Section on 01978 297407.

With compassion and care. We are not a program for campers with special needs, specifically, and we are a large, outdoor site spread over approximately 300 acres, so we're not always the right choice for everyone. We have had a number of campers with mild special needs attend camp over the years, most of them very successfully.

Families from these groups have successfully integrated into Little Taks and benefited enormously from the structured care that the Little Taks playgroups offers.

Currently, the best resource for special needs carseats is a local hospital. You should also be able to contact a local fitting station and a certified technician should be able to put you in contact with someone who can direct you to a source for these carseats. Home schooling children with special needs is gaining in popularity. As this continues, you will see much more support and resources available to you. Below we have listed organizations that may be helpful to you. Some of the resources listed are Christian and some are secular. Sometimes, the explanatory type will tell you, sometimes not. As always, families need to be discerning.

A camp nurse and/or nursing student is available 24 hours/day and stores all prescription and non-prescription medications brought to camp. Medications are administered when necessary to each camper. All medical staff members are First Aid/CPR certified.

Part of the camp experience is forming a tight group that begins to understand each other and work together. Our days build on each other and end in celebration. We feel it is important to be able to attend all days of the camp, therefore we do not allow campers to attend only part of a camp.

Contact the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) coordinator at your school. If your child is not in an exceptional student education program, the ESE coordinator will arrange a meeting of the Child Study Team (CST) at the school. With your input, the CST will develop a plan to assist your child. If your child continues to have problems, the CST will request your permission to evaluate your child to determine if he or she needs special attention.

You can request your local school for an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). Contact your local Intermediate Unit or go to the PEN web site or the D.O.E. web site

You can still home-educate. If your child attends a Special School, you may need to get permission to deregister him or her; however such permission should not be withheld without good reason (see our Legal Information page). If your child has a statement and attends an ordinary primary school, you can simply deregister him or her.

A statement of SEN does not affect the right to home education (see s7 Education Act 1996). No permission is required. Suitable arrangements for meeting the child's special needs must be made. This can include alternative provision to that specified in a Statement, provided the child's special needs are adequately catered for.

We do accommodate special needs with full inclusion. At the time of registration parents will make an appointment to meet with the Special Needs Resource Team (SNRT). The team with the assistance of the parent will develop a care plan for the child/youth prior to starting care.

CSC serves a broad, dietician-approved menu. Each meal consists of several alternatives, including vegetarian alternatives for those who do not eat meat. Of course, food allergies are also taken into account. Trail food is a little less glamorous, but we make efforts to send as much fresh food as possible. If you have any specific dietary questions regarding your camper, please call the office and indicate so on the health form.

The topography at camp can be challenging because of the hills and trails. We consider each child according to their ability to perambulate on the terrain and their capability of following queues. Please contact the Firwood Camp Director, Rob Lee, to discuss the possibilities.

C assists and trains providers to care for children with special needs in the childcare setting. We also have counselors who are specialized to handle these situations that you can talk to at 408-487-0749.

Homeschooling is especially suited to the needs of children who are learning disabled, ADD or ADHD, autistic, inexplicably academically slow, who have chronic illnesses, or who are physically limited or handicapped. Many parents are realizing that individually tailored curricula, flexibility, one-to-one teaching, and the time-efficient nature of homeschooling contribute to making homeschooling an excellent choice for their youngsters who have special needs. Research supports their conviction.

Communication is key. If your student has food allergies or requires any other special accommodations, please be sure to notify us in advance in order to allow us time to accommodate your needs. There are a number of ways we work with families to communicate this key information to the camp level. Upon registration, you will be provided access to your Camp Account where you have the opportunity to enter more detailed information into your student's Required Health Form.

Camps may be able to accommodate special needs depending on the severity of the disability. Parents are urged to contact the camp directly, prior to applying for camp, to discuss any special arrangements or needs.

If your child has prescription drugs that she needs to take while at camp, they will be given to the nurses on opening day, and your child will receive her dose as prescribed. Since many children are on important medication, and the nurses have a tremendous load to get all medications delivered, we ask this helpful favor from you: If your child normally takes vitamins or herbal medicines during the year, please do not bring them to camp unless it is absolutely necessary.

Any prescription medications you send must be in their original prescription container. Please make sure the label contains the camper's name, the physician's instructions, the name of the medication and the dosage. Please repeat these instructions on the medication form. All medication will be held and dispensed by Camp Indecon Staff.

Your child cannot start program activities without a completed Health Form on file signed by both parent & physician! Do not send forms uncompleted! In accordance with American Camping Association guidelines, a physician's signature is mandatory for all camps. Prior to mailing the original, keep a copy of your completed Health Form and hand carry a copy to camp. Nursing staff is on-site from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week while camp is in session.

You can either cancel or change to another camp date for the child's age. If you cancel 14 days prior to camp you will receive a full refund minus a $20 processing fee. If you cancel within 14 days of camp, you will receive one half the camp fee minus a $20 processing fee.
