That is correct... there are under 50 TBD in America today. It will be years before this breed will make it in the dog show scene.

The TBD is a very happy and friendly dog if raised properly. They can be shy and timid if they do not recieve the right socialization.

The Thai Bangkaew Dog (TBD) is a mixing of a native Thai Dog and a wolf-type canis created over 100 years ago.

I have seen several TBD over 10 years of age and they still look like young dogs . I have been told they live between 12-16 years.

They are primarily kept for hunting snakes & watching the homestead. They can often be found perched on high objects such as a dog house or, picnic table etc... in order to keep an eye on things. TBD have been trained to aid fishermen, guard endangered timberland & have even been recruited by the Thai Army. They are very popular companions in Thailand &? are often seen in the show ring.

This is up to the way you raise them. I believe any dog will chase the cat if provoked by the cat. The TBD is a true hunter and will take out rats and any small critter. If they are raised together, I believe they should be able to get along.

There is a lag time of approximately one month between the time the OFA issues breed numbers and the time this information is imported into the AKC registry. It should be noted that the AKC requires dogs to be permanently identified in the form of tattoo or microchip in order to include their OFA results in the AKC database. Effective 1/1/08, only dogs with verified permanent identification (VPI) will have their OFA data transmitted to the AKC for inclusion in their database.

Our Club sponsors dog obedience classes in several different sessions each year, and dogs of all breeds may be registered for any of our classes. It is necessary neither for your dog to be purebred nor for its breed to be recognized by any breed club for you to register for our obedience classes.

If you can let your dog off the lead when you walk it, then with care, the risk of using your poles with the dog should be minimal. TRD's are naturally protective of their family and territory. They do tend to be aggressive toward other dogs, unless properly socialized at a young age. The females can be more aggressive with each other as it is natural for them to be protective of their home. Males will often play together if introduced appropriately. But not always.
