Why does X-Chat leak so much memory?

XCHAT FAQ
The simple answer is, it doesn't! There are some GTK+ pixmap based themes around that leak a lot of memory. Please try using a different theme and see if that resolves the problem. X-Chat itself only allocates about 40kb of memory through malloc()!

Does Bricolage have a memory leak?

Bric::FAQ - Bricolage Frequently Asked Questions
No. Bricolage can use a lot of memory resources, especially if you publish a lot of documents at once, such as via the SOAP interface. Perl grabs the memory it needs, but it never releases it back to the operating system, although it will reuse it before asking the OS for more.

How much memory should rdiff-backup use? Is there a memory leak?

rdiff-backup FAQ
The amount of memory rdiff-backup uses should not depend much on the size of directories being processed. Keeping track of hard links may use up memory, so if you have, say, hundreds of thousands of files hard linked together, rdiff-backup may need tens of MB. If rdiff-backup seems to be leaking memory, it is probably because it is using an early version of librsync. librsync 0.9.5 leaks lots of memory. Later versions should not leak and are available from the librsync homepage.

rdiff-backup FAQ
rdiff-backup versions 0.2.x require Python version 2.1 or later, and versions 0.3.x and later require Python version 2.2 or later. If you don't know what version of python you are running, type in "python -V" from the shell. I'm sorry if this is inconvenient, but rdiff-backup uses generators, iterators, nested scoping, and static/class methods extensively, and these were only added in version 2.2.

Do I Have A Memory Leak?

Taman Tech Computing Services
Windows will, by design, always attempt to find some use, anything whatever that might potentially be of some benefit, for every bit of RAM installed in the computer. So it will increase the size of the disk cache to take advantage of available RAM, and will retain the program code from closed applications in RAM in anticipation that the application might be launched again, as is very often the case.

Why does the X server take up so much memory?

XStrikeForce/FAQ - Debian Wiki
Especially heard from KDE users with large monitors, many workspaces, and a different picture in the root window of each workspace.) The X Window System is a client-server window system. The memory for pixmap data resides on the server side instead of the client side. If you have 8 1600x1200 32bpp root window images that's 61 Megabytes. It resides in the server instead of the client, unless they are shared memory pixmaps, in which case it will be counted on both the server and client side.

Why does my TAO application leak memory when using Windows threads?

Support - Frequently Asked Questions - The ACE ORB
On Windows, if one spawns a thread with, for example _beginthreadex, and makes CORBA calls from that thread, TAO will leak memory. TAO uses TSS (thread specific storage) for handling requests along the output data paths. With Win32 threads, the underlying type system does not invoke destructors on TSS and the application will leak memory. To get around this problem, please use ACE threads wherever possible. Why does my roof leak?

Roofing FAQ from hansons. Roofing, shingle, warranty and mor...
Well a cynic might answer that there are two kinds of roofs, those that leak and those that will leak. Roofs leak from a break in the waterproofing layer, sometimes caused by mechanical damage (ie, someone dropping an HVAC access panel on the roof), sometimes from an opening in the sealant, such as pitch pans and caulking, and sometimes from deterioration or defects in the roofing material. The key roof management task is leak avoidance. Find and correct defects before they leak.

This isn't real memory. Most graphics cards now map huge amounts of registers and frame buffers to userspace which is reported as memory used. You can check this in /proc somewhere. 64MB is common, depending on the card, or even more.

How does (defun car (x) (car x)) work?

Frequently Asked Questions for comp.lang.lisp
This code is probably part of the source to a lisp compiler, which knows how to open-code calls to CAR. However, the interpreter also needs to know how to call CAR, which is what the above defun is doing. This is not recommended in user code... This question is usually motivated by the existence of labels, which is a similar form for binding functions, but also allows mutual recursion between the functions being bound. Given this, it is perhaps natural to question the utility of flet.

GladRags are designed to be comfortable and efficient. The flaps that snap around your underwear act as wings to protect the sides of your panties from getting stained and there is no stitching where your flow can pool. Your flow will just naturally go toward the absorbing inserts, which have a layer of cotton terry cloth inside. GladRags can leak if left unchanged for too long, just as disposable pads will if they become too saturated.
