Each student or prospective student should take the Orientation for Online Students. At the end of the Orientation is a Quiz. After submitting your quiz you will get a response via email from the Office of Distance Learning. Keep this email (your instructor may require it as proof that you are ready to take the class).

Check the printed schedule notes for information about orientation. Some courses require an on-campus orientation meeting and some do not. The instructor makes this determination. All Telecourses have a mandatory orientation. In this meeting you will be given instructions about assignments, testing, and viewing broadcasts. You need reliable access to a computer if you want to take an online course and some video-based courses. Many video-based and correspondence course instructors prefer to use e-mail for corresponding with students.

Distance Learning (DL), also known as Distance Education (DE), is simply learning from a distance, usually from home, or from a conveniently located off-campus site. DL allows adults to earn college credits, even entire degrees, without ever leaving home.

No. The kind of learning experience that you get in this program - experiential, participatory, and cooperative – cannot be replicated in a distance-learning mode. By being part of a dynamic, group process, you learn about facilitating groups and working effectively as a teacher with your own students.

Some students do find it hard to keep up with the units for this programme. We encourage students to try to keep up with their peers because this gives them encouragement to continue and deadlines to prevent them falling too far behind. Sometimes, however, a student will complete units more slowly, and we can renegotiate a late submission date or a rate of work to a more realistic level.

You enroll for these classes the same as you would any other class at SLCC – in person, or over the internet. All information you provide for class registration is the same for a distance course – call number, course name, credit hours, ect.

We will ship a CD containing the training material and a USB software security key (LPT keys/dongles are also available). The security key protects the license ? so that only one person may use the system at a time. If you order the certification option, you will also receive a Webcam (with a built-in microphone). The Webcam allows us to "monitor" the certification exam. We need to ensure that the correct person is sitting the exam, and that no assistance is being received.
