For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

The deadline for submitting supplemental admission documents, including test scores, is the same as the application deadline. You are responsible for ensuring the scores arrive at Stanford by the relevant deadline. Be sure to self-report all available scores on the application and have the official scores sent immediately to Stanford University at institution code 4704.

The department will notify you if they have not received them. If you have received official notification from UCSD, contact the department. The last acceptable deadline to take the GRE or TOEFL is in December. It is strongly recommended that you take the test prior to the application deadline. The January test dates are typically too late.

If you're taking the TOEFL CBT the minimum score is 250. If it is available in your country and you are taking the TOEFL IBT, then the minimum score is a total of 80 points, with a minimum of 23 on the Speaking section. Individual departments may require higher scores. The IBT minimums are subject to change as we gain more experience on what these scores actually mean in terms of proficiency.

The GRE and TOEFL scores should be sent directly from ETS to Cornell University, university code 2098. Xeroxed copies of student scores do not constitute official scores. You should plan to take the tests allowing enough time for the official scores to arrive before the Field deadline; generally this process takes 3-4 weeks; however, it is recommended that the tests be taken no later than October due to the large volume of testing that occurs after that time.

Once you ask ETS to send score reports to UCSB, please allow two to three weeks for processing. Once your scores have arrived, Graduate Division will update your application status.

We understand that the occasional letter of recommendation might go astray and that the Educational Testing Service sometimes experiences technical problems that prevent GRE scores from reaching us by the February 1 st deadline. We are therefore somewhat more flexible about these supplementary materials. Although we do begin evaluating application folders during the first week in February, we will not immediately discard applications that are missing some supporting materials.

There is no strict deadline but remember that GRE scores must be received to have a completed application. Your file will be reviewed for an admission decision as soon as your file is complete. However, we recommend that your scores be received prior to November 1. Scores do take approximately 3 weeks to arrive from the testing center. TWU may have trouble matching up your scores if you choose to create an ID instead of using your social security number.

Applicants who do not have a degree from an English-speaking country must obtain a passing grade on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). We also require the GRE's, however we have no specific cutoff score. We use these scores coupled along with all documents to determine admission.

We really cannot say based only on your GPA, GRE and (for international students) TOEFL scores what your chances of admission and a funding offer are. We look at the entire application, including your courses (and grades in them), your personal statement, and your letters of recommendation.

Yes, we can accept a copy of the score reports for the initial review of the file. The reports can be faxed, mailed, or scanned and emailed to dgs@cheme.cornell.edu. If you are accepted into the program, you will have plenty of time to provide official scores to us.

There are no minimum test score requirements. As a reference, however, the average GRE scores for the entering class of Fall 2006 were Verbal: 566, Quantitative: 760, and Analytical: 4.4. General GRE scores are required: your application will absolutely not be considered without them. The Subject GRE policy is more flexible.

First we look at the applications on their individual merit. We look at all of the materials and try to arrive at an accurate portrait of the applicant that includes experience, the breadth of previous coursework and recommendations. We do see scores and GPAs in all ranges. In general, however, competitive GRE scores will be in the 600s for the verbal section, in the 600s for the quantitative section, and 5 or above (on a 6-point scale) for the writing section. Competitive GPAs will be 3.
