Yes. If you close the VPN Client window (the red bullet), the connection will disconnect, but you can minimize it (the yellow bullet) and keep the connection alive. Now, when your users log in under Simple Finder, this alias will be found in the Shared Folder located in the Dock.

LimeWire's default shutdown setting is to minimize itself to the system dock until all transfers have been completed. If you would like LimeWire to shut down immediately upon quitting select options from the tools menu, choose shutdown, and change the setting to "Shutdown Immediately." Go to the "Get Info" window for LimeWire and increase the preferred memory size to 40 MB or more if you have it available. Apple highly recommends allocating 64 MB or more.

When using Safari, OS/X stores and manages the private/public keys and certificates with a utility called 'Keychain Access'. When downloading a certificate from the APNIC website, Safari won't automatically install it. It will just copy the certificate to the desktop. Double clicking the certificate will invoke Keychain Access, which will guide you to install it into the system. When using any of the other browsers mentioned above, the certificate will be installed automatically by the browser.

There are many factors that can affect your ability to connect to campus network resources using the VPN client. If the resource you are trying to reach is behind a firewall, is running a local software based firewall, or has some other traffic control applied to it, it may not be accessible. In general, any resource available to the campus network as a whole should be available.

You can connect using your VPN software exactly the same as you would from any other broadband connection. This is a long-standing bug in the OS X support. Fortunately, the patch is quite simple, and well-known. Here's a link to the solution. Support for atomic integer operations is/was broken on i386 platforms. The assembly code accidentally used opcodes that are only available on the i486 and later. So if you configured GCC to target, for example, i386-linux, but actually used the programs on an i686, then you would encounter no problems.

Although Aqua schemes are probably available elsewhere on the web (please do not ask us for URLs), we ask that you respect Apple's right to control its intellectual property and not use these schemes with Kaleidoscope.

It is too early to say. We intend to make a version of Kaleidoscope for Mac OS X. However, unlike applications which can be Carbonized, low level hacks like Kaleidoscope need to be completely rewritten for Mac OS X.

Sort-of. Doing so will likely violate The Mac OS X End User License. QEMU does not emulate X86 Mac hardware, however some people have reported success hacking OS X to run on regular PC hardware (ie. qemu).

Alternatively Parallels is the mainstream proprietary software. Also works well, although is a RAM hog, especially with two guests. You can try the PDtweaker module for Unsanity's Application Enhancer to make it work smoother. I couldn't make APE work on 10.4.7 though.

Sound manager audio input does not appear to have been a high priority for the OS X Classic implementation. As a result, the audio input performance is oftentimes not great when running Videodelic under OS X Classic. Some users have experienced a situation on dual-monitor set-ups where the Videodelic performance appears on the correct screen but standalone QuickTime movies being played by the Videodelic Player are displayed on the wrong screen.

In Logic under OS X, the CoreAudio driver setup panel doesn't have any record/playback delay setup. If you're optimistic, you might interpret that as an indication that it's all done automatically by CoreAudio and the driver. But given Emagic's history in this area, what's the bet it's currently a big fat inaccurate mess? Rumblings from the Mobile i/o list seem to indicate this...
