Out of the many interesting courses available to BIA students, Musical Theatre and Ceramics are the top favorites. Students choose a production they would like to perform at the beginning of the year, and then practice for several months, putting in much of their own time and effort. After hours of hard work and preparation, the show is performed in Spring, for the students' families, friends, and staff.

Have you ever been to a company picnic that had competition where the people had to make it through an obstacle course to win a prize. Most of us enjoy watching this sort of contest. Imagine if you will, watching a team of dogs doing the same thing.... running through tunnels, over bridges, around obstacles, over a see-saw, and through a hoop. If you think its fun to watch, you should see how much fun the dogs have doing it.

There's a lot you can do on Islay, too much to list here. A few options include visiting the distilleries, visit the many historic sites including Finlaggan or the Churches and Celtic Crosses on Islay, visit one of the many beaches or watch Islay's varied wildlife. Birdwatching is very popular, either visit the RSPB Loch Gruinart Reserve or go on a birdwatching tour with Islay Birding. Islay offers excellent walks, the annual WalkIslay walking week offers guided walks.

We found that running a high school dormitory is expensive since it requires providing meals, entertainment, transportation, medical attention, recreational activities and staff on a 24 hour basis. A core of families who live near UB are willing to host youth; for those interested in such an opportunity, we will seek a local family for them. This year we had seven home stay students.

I provided the program to students in all AB and BC Calculus classes. The students were quite excited when they started using the program. Some even bought TI-89 calculators as the program allowed them to a) learn and reinforce Calculus concepts and b) check answers. During class time, the focus changed from just finding answers to understanding answers. I feel I come closer to my goal of providing graphical, analytical and numerical approaches when solving Calculus problems.

Spring Hill has a number of student organizations on campus. The campus programming board also sponsors several activities (such as Fall Formal and Mardi Gras Ball) each semester. Pack 50 prides itself in the camping and overnight opportunities that it provides for the members of the pack. A camping trip or overnight trip is planned once a month year round with the only exception usually being the month of December. Many of the camping trips are held locally at Ft. Toulouse.

Participation, both on the water and ashore with fellow members who are skilled and knowledgeable in boating, is one of the rewarding and enjoyable experiences members enjoy. On the water activities include cruises, rendezvous, river float trips, navigation contests and even fishing excursions. Activities ashore include squadron meetings with marine-based programs, parties, dinners, picnics, camping and field trips.

Weekend activities (both on and off campus) are planned each week for the entire student body (day students and boarders). On campus, recreational activities are organized by the student government in conjunction with the Dean of Students. Yes, we believe that good, clean fun is a deterrent to the self-destructive behaviors in which some teens get involved. We encourage teens to participate in music and athletic activities (volleyball, flag football, baseball, basketball, boxing, golf). Our students are allowed to interact with other teens in supervised environments. We also schedule recreational events for deserving students.

With over 80 clubs and other organizations to choose from, Linfield students find it hard to pick just one.

The IEI has many social activities for IEI students outside the classroom such as an All-IEI picnic or party at the beginning of the semester, an ice skating party, and a conversation groups for students and teachers that usually meet twice a week. Students can also volunteer for the Student Activities Committee which helps plans these events. In addition, teachers do social activities outside class time with their students at different times during the semester.

Students and staff meet on Fridays at our normal elective period to talk about issues. Generally, the agenda is open and the topics can range from issues specifically related to our school, to social justice issues, to planning activities and setting goals for what we want to accomplish during the school year. Also, all high school students are required to participate in "Short Term" (a three-week period right before Winter vacation).
