Leather is made from animal skins or hides. The top layer of the hide is the toughest and most durable, but also has small imperfections caused by the animal getting scratched by barbed wire or from insect bites which have healed but remain slightly visible. An important point is that if you see these slight imperfections, it is proof that you are getting authentic Top Grain Leather. They do not weaken the leather.

Pigskin is lighter and much stronger than cowhide. Also, because it has larger hair follicles, pigskin is very breathable while cowhide is not. All mass manufacturers use cowhide as the leather in their athletic shoes, although one company does use pigskin in its high-end models.

A whole grain, such as oats, barley, wheat, millet, brown rice and others contain every part of the grain: the bran (outer layer), the endosperm (middle layer) and the germ (inner layer). Refined grains such as white flour products are stripped of these health-promoting parts.

Grain is present due to the nature of the wood these marks are not defects in the wood and are only natural.

the tannery, a leather hide is split into 2 layers - top grain and the lower grain or "split." The lower, bottom grain is the flesh piece and may be split one or more times. The lower grain is likely to be used on the outside parts of a piece of furniture.

In the U.S., the number of bushels of corn produced measures more than double that of any other grain crop. And U.S. researchers have led the way in finding many uses for corn like vitamins and amino acids.

Paper and board stock material is stronger in the grain direction. Knowing which dimension is the grain dimension is an important consideration for light weight papers (75# and 85#) to minimize tearing the paper during printing on using the finished product. Grain direction is less significant for thicker material. For laminated paper and board stock, the grain direction is irrelevant, since the film lamination provides added strength in all directions.

Our grains are purchased from major commercial (human) food-grade suppliers like General Mills, Pillsbury, etc. - fully tested and retested when received. This testing insures the very best quality and reduces the possibility of (naturally occurring) toxic molds, such as Aflatoxin and Mycotoxins which are poisonous to pets and animals who ingest them. Many pet food manufacturers purchase their grains directly from the farms for the simple reason that it is cheaper.

Whole Grains are sometimes called the "seed of life" because they are seeds that supply all the first nourishment for the plant. A Whole Grain comprises 3 parts: the Bran, Endosperm and Germ. Endosperm: the middle layer (and the largest section) serves as the main energy storehouse for the plant. It contains: Germ: Although it's the smallest part of a grain, the germ is packed with nutrients. The germ sprouts into a new plant, so it holds rich supplies of key nutrients:

Before they are milled or refined, all grains are whole. Some grains are milled, or refined, to remove the bran and germ portions, leaving only the endosperm. This removes most of the health benefits of the bran and germ portions. By contrast, whole grain foods contain all three layers of the grain. The nutrients and other substances in plant foods work together in powerful ways.

It's easy to get the three recommended servings of whole grain foods each day if you know where to look. Wheat, corn, oats and rice are the most common varieties of grain eaten in Canada. An assortment of foods such as breakfast cereals, breads, waffles, pancakes, crackers and pastas can be delicious sources of whole grains. The phrase "whole grain" tells you that you are getting the entire grain.

One serving from the Grain Products group is defined by Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating as 30g of cold or hot cereal, one slice of bread, or a half cup of rice or pasta. Making at least 3 whole grain choices out of the minimum of 5 recommended servings of grain products will help meet Health Canada's advice to choose whole grains more often6.

All General Mills cereals will have at least 8 grams of whole grain per 30g serving, many will have more.

Top grain leather is leather from the uppermost layer of a hide. It is the highest quality part of the hide.

When it comes to whole grains, the "whole" is truly greater than the sum of its parts! Whole grains consist of all three parts of a grain, including: the fibre-rich outer coating of bran; the central endosperm (internal seed); and the nutrient-packed inner germ. Together these make up the kernel of the grain. During the milling process, the bran and germ are removed from refined grains and only the endosperm, the least nutritious part of the grain, remains.

In Summer 2002 we began offering superlative 4.0+ oz. American Chrome-Tanned, Drum-Dyed Cowhide made to LOST WORLDS specifications as a less expensive option on many of our jackets. Horsehide is infinitely scarcer, was used on original jackets in the 20s-50s, has a different grain when broken in and is our signature leather, unmatched anywhere. It's also ultimately tougher under lab conditions.

Horsehide is an extremely dense, non-porous leather. Until the end of the 1930's horsehide was the leather of choice for products that required extreme durability. The density and non-porous nature of horsehide which makes it such a durable leather, is also the reason that horsehide does not dye uniformly in colors other than black. If multiple pieces are crafted from horsehide and dyed tan or mahogany, there is a very good chance that each piece will have a slight color variations.

Generally corn and sorghum grain can be interchanged for each other in rations for chickens as they have almost the same nutritive value. More alfalfa meal or some other source of yellow pigment must be added to maintain yolk color if yellow corn is fully or partially replaced by other grains in a laying ration. Wheat is very palatable for poultry. Wheat and milo have comparable energy contents, but slightly less (5-7%) than corn.

The grain mill attachment is used to grind low-moisture grains and nuts into flour. Fresh flour produces excellent bread.

he glycemic index of whole-grain bread (40) is lower than that of whole-wheat (50) because the flour hasn't undergone the process of bolting. In view of its low glycemic index, whole-grain bread induces a weak glycemic reaction (amount of sugar released into the bloodstream) and limits the storage of fatty acids (fat) because there is no excessive release of insulin (a hormone that lowers glycemia and stimulates fat retention).

Whole grain is food in its least expensive form. The consumer provides the processing. It is very healthy and can be used to create countless tasty meals. It stores well and is economical.
