The cadets meet with the coordinator of the sponsor program during swab summer. Cadets have the option of signing up to have a sponsor family assigned to them. Cadets who ask for sponsor families are assigned based the distance between the cadet's home town and the Academy; cadets whose home towns are the furthest away get assigned first and then it works back geographically towards New England. There is a 'meet-the-sponsor-family day' at the beginning of the semester.

Your cadet has been used to receiving help from family, friends, teachers, and clergy while at home. When they arrive at the Academy, there may be a sense of alienation or loss. Remind them that there are people there who they can go to for help. There are clergy of all faiths available at all times . The Chaplain's Office telephone number is listed in the Guide for Parents and Cadets that you receive before R-day and on the Academy web site.

Yes. For an example, there are staff positions that need to be filled by Senior Members during Winter and Summer Cadet Encampments. I was interested to read the various aspects of flying and the statistics on air safety. I believe that passengers become nervous in an aircraft because their safety is entirely at the hands of the pilot, the crew and the air traffic control. If I saw a car coming towards me, I could hopefully leap out of the way, but in an aircraft there would be nothing I could do in the event of anything going wrong (touch wood). I believe it is the luck of the draw being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Flight Instructor steps out of the aircraft and the cadet will then fly alone. The cadet will perform 1-3 take off and landings at a small airport. The Flight Instructor is in constant contact with the student with a radio from the ground and is observing the flights.

As with the powered solo, the Flight Instructor steps out of the aircraft and remains in radio contact. The flight before will be a "supervised solo" with the cadets primary instructor. By that time the cadet will have flown with at least 2 other instructors and they will compare notes before the cadet is signed off for a solo flight. First of all, not all cadets go on sea term. This is due to several factors, including health/injury related reasons, academic issues such as failing math or other required subjects, disciplinary actions, and space limitations on the ship. This will not come as a complete surprise to your cadet, they will be made well aware that they are in danger of not being allowed to participate in the coming sea term.

You must be at least 12 years old. The maximum age for joining as a cadet is 18. If you are a cadet, you have the choice of remaining a cadet until you turn 21 or you may choose to become a senior member once you turn 18.

An SMP (Simultaneous Membership Program) Cadet is enrolled in a volunteer officer training program that allows Army National Guard and Army Reserve enlisted members to participate in the Advanced ROTC Program. Upon completion of Basic Training, a reserve component solider that is an academic junior can join ROTC and earn a commission as an officer in the United States Army upon graduation. The best way to communicate with your cadet is through letters. Write to your cadet often. Mail is very important to the cadets. Ask brothers, sisters, other family members, and friends to write also. Mail is delivered to the cadets Monday-Friday.

In preparation for weekend exercises, â??dry trainingâ?? is conducted on the De La Salle College Campus. As part of their leadership training, Senior Cadets must organize and conduct weekend overnight exercises which take place on the De La Salle Cadet Corps â??Ypresâ?? Training Area; an area of land 1.5 hours drive north of Toronto, of which use is donated for Cadet training by generous supporters of the Cadet program.

It is only after this point when you would undergo a thorough Company medical examination. You would have to disclose your medical history and that includes your eye laser surgery.

No. Resist the temptation to call their Cadre, Commanders, Teachers, and Coaches. It simply puts your cadet in an awkward position and makes it tougher for them to gain independence. Resist the urge to write to your cadet and tell them how lonely it is without them. Keep all correspondence and communication upbeat and positive. Many of them are fighting the urge to call and or leave because of homesickness and exhaustion. That being said, things do change toward the end of and after Swab summer.

A contracted cadet is a student that has made a commitment to serve in the military upon graduation. They are no different then any other student on campus, however they do have a guaranteed job the day they graduate.

The Cadet Officer is a civilian employee, with no police powers, who participates in an academy training program to learn the general duties of police work. Upon graduation from the academy, the Cadet Officer is promoted to Officer and attends the DPS Advanced Basic Training, which includes training on Department policies, practices and standards.
