why does my backlight not work on the screen even though i have the brightness all the way up?

Clie PEG-UX50 FAQ
I haven't tried this, but the easiest way that I can think of is to hard reset the device, choose "no" to restoring the back-up, then just immediately creating a new back-up of the currently empty UX (preferences/powersaving). This should replace the old back-up file with a new back-up file that has no information in it. If you go into the advanced mode in the built-in powersave utility you can go into the menus and choose the option to erase the backup currently in the backup flash.

What is brightness?

Gamma FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about Gamma
In a grayscale image, each pixel value represents what is loosely called brightness. However, brightness is defined formally as the attribute of a visual sensation according to which an area appears to emit more or less light. This definition is obviously subjective, so brightness is an inappropriate description of, or metric for, image data. Grayscale image data is normally based upon luminance. Color image data is normally based upon tristimulus values.

I think they are about the same, at least when I put my T3 side-by-side with my partner's Z71, they look the same to me. I just got a chance to compare all current palm pda screens at officedepot. The Zire71 and TE look like they have the same screen. The T3's screen is a bit dull compared to those 2 - at 100% T3 looks like the TE around 60-70% brightness. The T3 is slightly brighter than my NX70V. I just got a chance to compare all current palm pda screens at officedepot.
