Night Scene mode is designed to help you capture better exposures outdoors in low-light conditions. The camera holds the shutter open longer than it would in other situations, allowing more light to reach the CCD. Because the shutter is open longer, it is very important to keep both the camera and the subject still. Camera motion during image capture will result in blurry pictures.

Though you normally can use continuous recording to record up to five images, you can record only four in the Night Scene mode or when shooting at slow shutter speeds. You may be able to record four or even fewer images when CF card capacity is low.

Blurry images are generally due to one or all of the following three causes. The subject was not in focus, the camera was moving at the time of the exposure, the image was captured at too low a resolution. Out of focus images are by far the biggest problem with most of the images we see on the internet, we strongly urge you to learn to focus your camera. It will probably require you to dig out and spend some time with your camera's user manual.

The EVOLT E-510 has a Scene mode that optimizes the camera settings for specific shooting conditions. All of the settings applied in the 18 available Scenes can also be applied via controls in the camera menu, but applying them manually can be time-consuming. In addition, amateur photographers may not have a deep enough knowledge of photography to select the appropriate settings for some situations that advanced amateur and professional photographers would employ.

There is no set number of images. Every event is different. You can expect anywhere between 300 and 2000 images from a wedding, or between 10 and 100 images from the average portrait session.

The Scene mode comes with a collection of 28 different built-in sample images (scenes), such as blue sky, fireworks, buildings, etc. Simply select the type of scene you want to shoot, and the camera sets up for it automatically. Selecting the fireworks scene, for example, closes the aperture, sets the shutter speed to bulb, focuses for infinity, sets the white balance to sunlight, selects center weighted metering, and turns off the flash.

Selecting a scene in the Scene mode automatically sets up the camera with recommended settings for the scene. The actual conditions where you are shooting can affect the appearance of an image, so you should make manual adjustments to the settings as required.

Blurry images are often the result of movement during image capture. Either the camera was not held still ? a phenomenon called "camera shake" ? or the subject was moving and the camera did not fire with a fast enough shutter speed to freeze the action.

The best way to determine which image quality mode is best for any shot is to decide ? before you shoot ? how you will use the captured image. The default HQ mode is ideal if you plan to print your images in the standard 4" x 6" snapshot size. It's great for scrapbooking or for printing from the kiosks often found at drugstores, camera stores or retailers with on-site photo-processing labs.

The maximum shutter speed in the Night Scene mode is one second. If lighting is too dim for the Night Scene mode, set the shutter speed to an appropriate fixed value to record. In the Shutter Speed Priority mode and Manual mode, you can slow the shutter speed up to 60 seconds.

The NIGHT SCENE and NIGHT+PORTRAIT Scenes are meant to take time exposures of skylines and city streets by leaving the shutter open for several seconds. Therefore, it is necessary to stabilize the camera by bracing it against something solid or ? ideally ? by using a tripod or camera clamp.

It takes as long as it takes. Typically, a solo shoot will take 60-90 minutes. An action shoot with two models may take 2 hours. A shoot with many models may take several hours or more. We will give you a rough estimate of the time involved when we book you for a shoot.

It is possible you have the Flash Mode set to one of the Slow Sync modes (lighting bolt with the word Slow). Slow synchronization flash sets a slow shutter speed for the background exposure and fires the flash for the subject exposure. Since the shutter speed is slow, your subject should be still and the camera should be on a tripod otherwise blur can result.

The likely answer is that your AOL browser is compressing images. Pictures may load a little faster, but they lose a lot of their original quality. You can change this by selecting Preferences from "My AOL" on your menu bar at the top of the screen. Then choose Web Preferences and de-select the check box next to "Use Compressed Images."

If your scans are looking bad on the screen, but printing out satisfactorily, it could be your video driver that is causing the problem. Try some different resolution and color settings in the "Display" portion of your control panel (after first making sure that you have the proper driver disks to restore your system to the original settings). You should be using a driver that provides 16+million colors, and a resolution of at least 800 x 600.

Make sure the images you upload are large enough resolution. At least 550 pixels along the longest dimension. Also, make sure your computer is not running any kind of "accelerator" programs. These programs are most common with aol and earthlink and "speed up" your download speed by reducing image quality.
