Subscribers on the digest list receive periodic large messages (about twice a day) containing a whole bunch of single posts strung together. This is convenient for people who get their email at work or who find it inconvenient to get dozens of individual messages every day. If you want to subscribe to digest, send a message to indiepop-digest-request@eskimo.com with the word subscribe in the Subject: line of the header (NOT the message body).

You will also need to unsubscribe from the non-digest version of the list unless you wish to receive both. If any recipient contains "emailer-talk" then file the messages in folder "emailer-talk" Use this to automatically file messages into a folder just for emailer-talk. Make sure you set the mail action to file, rather than change priority.

Using the Digest option, you will normally receive only one message each day, containing all of the messages posted during the preceding 24 hour period. (Or one package for every 25 messages posted during that period). Go to the Yahoo Groups Member Center (http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups) and click on the digest box next to Kundaliniyoga on your list of subscribed mailing lists. A subsequent click on the same box will revert you to normal mode.

Twice a month you'll receive an automatic message with a list of email addresses that you can use to change your mail settings. Many of us use these to switch between individual email messages to a digest version which compiles all the messages into 25 posts in a single email. The digest comes out every 24 hours, or every 25 messages, whichever occurs first. This means that the digest readers will usually be a bit behind the email readers in their response times.

Our mailing lists are not listservs where anyone can send a note to all subscribers, instead they are maintained by IssueLab staff. Because we are the only people who can send out messages to the list and we adhere to a once-a-week schedule, we do not currently offer a digest version of our mailing lists.

Your membership settings will show that you are not subscribed to the Digest version of the Members-Only List, yet there is no option to subscribe to it. This is intentional, and hopefully, temporary. I disabled access to the Digest list for the time being, due to technical issues with that list. Most notably, under testing, members who sign up for the digest version, could not send messages to the regular list. This should not be.

Julian Lawton started the indiepop list in the summer of 1994. For several years, a number of pop people had been talking on the 4AD-L list about breaking away and forming their own list. This idea was encouraged by the diehard 4AD fans on that list, since it really wasn't a very appropriate place to discuss Sarah Records and so on. Initially, Julian merely assembled the few posts together and hand-forwarded them to people who said they were interested.

Almost every message sent to the list since the beginning is available at the Indiepop List Archives (www.twee.net/indiepop/), older versions of the archives were maintained by Mr. Jason Korzen in Washingto D.C. and Robin Humble in Melbourne, Australia who did the archives for the first 5 years.

There are currently about 700 people on the list, with past or present members from approximately 20 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, The United States, and The United Kingdom. The list software unfortunately no longer supports the who or review commands, so there's no easy way to find out who is on the list.

Some people would rather get one really big message every day or so, rather than a lot of separate messages. That's a digest. You can get your jcnews in digest form by going to the yahoogroups.com website, registering, and modifying your subscription to the group. Or you can email Linda to do it for you. TweeNet is the official web-site for the indiepop mailing-list, one section is dedicated to list-related topics, incl. the Popfest pages and the poll. To be featured on it own page or band or label has to archive a certain status within the indiepop world. It should have released a few good records and should be established. New bands will not get their own page right away but will get into the discography database and may be found through the search tool.

Please note that the Lists can be high volume (upwards of 100 messages a day in many cases), so you may prefer to sign up for the Digest list, which consolidates a group of messages in one e-mail before sending them to you. You may switch to or from the Digest list at any time. The SCA Digest is the electronic mail version of the Rialto. One can subscribe and unsubscribe by sending email to SCA-Request@mc.lcs.mit.edu, requesting your addition to or deletion from the list. Expect this to take up to a week - the people running the Digest are volunteers with other work to do. If you read rec.org.sca, there is no need for you to subscribe to SCA-Request, as messages are gatewayed in both directions.
