Run 'file' on the .hdd image. Is it in raw format? If it is then you can use qemu-img to do the conversion. Please edit this and move it elsewhere if it indeed answers the question.

Short answer: No. QEMU does not support creating a partition table/MBR on the fly. You need to use "/dev/hda" (e.g. the entire hard disk). Note: An experimental patch has been released that adds this functionality. You need to pass "-hda part:/dev/hda1" instead of "-hda /dev/hda". QEMU will then create an MBR and partition table on the fly for /dev/hda1. Changes to the MBR or partition table are lost when restarting QEMU.

This is an SDL bug. Specifically, SDL is using a 32-bit visual provided by Xgl, which causes pixels to be specified in RGBA format. SDL has a bug that makes it (wrongly) specify alpha blending for its windows. You can work around this by doing 'XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1; export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS' before running QEMU.

Long answer: Once installed, Windows has only the minimal drivers required to boot the hardware on your computer - which happens to be completely different from what QEMU emulates. Windows 9x has enough problems with this, but Windows NT is especially fickle. You may be able to boot Windows 95 or 98 work from QEMU this way (there have been a few reports of success), but if you want to try we can not help you. You are better off installing Windows into a disk image.

Sort-of. Doing so will likely violate The Mac OS X End User License. QEMU does not emulate X86 Mac hardware, however some people have reported success hacking OS X to run on regular PC hardware (ie. qemu).

Alternatively Parallels is the mainstream proprietary software. Also works well, although is a RAM hog, especially with two guests. You can try the PDtweaker module for Unsanity's Application Enhancer to make it work smoother. I couldn't make APE work on 10.4.7 though.

On Windows XP/2K you can try to boot from the flash drive like so: qemu -hda //./PhysicalDriveN ... where N is the drive number found in the disk manager.

Typically, someone has used Microsoft Works, or Word, or Excel; or a database program; or some other kind of software to create data or document files. This message appears when Windows automatically runs the Parallels Tools CD after the startup and tries to install Parallels Tools. Before CDex 1.10 you can only encode WAV files, but not the other way around. There are several tools available which can do this job. Take a look at www.mp3.com and look for utilities like WinAmp or MaPlay.

I've got a newer Casio Exilim (the s880) and have been joining/converting my h264 files to Divx/Mp3 with Allok. Allok Video Joiner is well worth the purchase price. It's fast and easy, and also I've been "updating" my old movie clips from the last decade taken with various cameras (motion jpeg mostly) to the h264 for archiving/playing on my pc (playback with videolan is best and I hate using Quicktime). SUPER is one of the worst programs I've ever seen.

If you only want a few files converted, then the simplest way is to drag and drop those files onto the program. You can either drag files onto the program's icon on the desktop, or onto the program itself. If you drag files onto the program's icon there is a limit with this approach of around 10 files. This limit arises because the filenames are concatenated to make a command string, and this seems to have a Windows-impose limit of 255 characters. This problem may be solved in later versions.

The largest number of files converted at one time using the wildcard function was reported to be around 2000. A week later someone contacted me with around 3000 files to be converted. A few weeks after that someone was claiming 7000. If you'd like to claim a higher number, let me know. Theoretically the only limit is your disk space.

This depends on a web host and a plan. Most plans will allow running scripts in languages such as Perl or PHP. Some plans will also allow you to compile program in C/C++ and run them. Some Unix plans will also allow you to run "cron" which enables you to automatically execute programs or scripts at a specific time and date. However to get a full control over all aspects of your server, you will need a dedicated or co-located server instead of a shared plan.
