Havanese are part of the Bichon canine family, but are a distinct breed. Havanese come in all colors and combinations of colors. I've never heard of that breed. Are they recognized by the AKC? They were admitted to the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1995 and are at present in the miscellaneous class. They will eventually be admitted to the toy class. Staining to the face (under the eyes and around the muzzle) are of particular concern to many Bichon owners because it detracts from an otherwise white coat. This is primarily a cosmetic problem, however, tear stains may be due to eye problems, blocked tear ducts, ingrown eyelashes, or other physical problems. A vet should see the dog to eliminate these as a cause. Staining can be difficult to control and in most cases cannot be entirely cleaned up.

You must be consistent and patient while house training a Bichon. They are very intelligent but Bichons are not always cooperative with house training. House training can be difficult but not impossible. House training works best if you confine the dog while you are not watching them or else you will end up with numerous "accidents". Crate training makes it much easier to house train the dog.

Whitman Fencing is a peer-taught club, wherein the the teachers change from year to year such that the most experienced students are teaching newer students. We hope to eventually find a faculty member interested in learning how to fence and teach fencing, believing the club would benefit from greater pedagogical stability.

Recreational Teams - Every child gets equal playing time regardless of ability. The only exception to this philosophy is that if your child does not attend team practices at least once a week, he/she will play in every game, but will not be subject to the equal playing time requirement. Travel Teams - Due to the competitive nature of the Travel Program, every child plays in every game, but equal playing time is not a Travel Team requirement.
