Some aquarium manufactures use Acrylic (plasic) tops instead of glass. These tops can easily warp, scratch, nick, fog, blush, and craze. We use only tempered glass tops (sometimes called "safety glass"). If they break they usually do not leave a sharp edge (just like car windows). Tempered glass is more expensive than normal glass. Both glass and acrylic are used to glaze (protect) your framed prints. Glass is heavier and more scratch resistant than acrylic and is only available for framed pieces up to 20" x 24". Glass can be micro-etched to provide anti-glare properties and coated to provide anti-reflective properties and UV protection which keeps your art from fading.
