Poodles will bark if you allow them to. You need to discipline your pet and tell them “no” when they are doing something they shouldn't or something you don't want them to do. Yvonne says: It depends on the dog. In my experience, the senior female Westie in a group will need to alert the family to any strangers. My male is much more willing to just watch strangers go by the yard. However, it is very possible to teach your Westie to give only one bark and then be quiet. The trick, I think, is to never let the dog keep on barking. Bring him or her into the house, and even put them into the crate until he or she quiets.

Some Corgis do bark a lot, others are very quiet. Some barking is a form of warning and a function of the protective nature of the breed, however, excessive barking should be addressed with proper training, especially when the dog is young - just like teaching your kids!

Poodle puppies who have been properly socialized will love children. Adult poodles who have never been around children may not like them, however. It all depends on the way the dog has been raised.
