I am applying Cetol DEK Finish on my deck. What should I put on the railings?

Sikkens: Simply Beautiful Woodcare Products For Your Wood Ho...
Although it is possible to use a different product on the rails, we recommend using the same product. This will make it less confusing when it is time to do maintenance. Rubbol Siding Finish, Rubbol Solid Stain, or Rubbol DEK may be chosen to more closely match the rest of the house.

I sprayed Cetol DEK Finish on my deck and have overspray on my vinyl siding. What should I do?

Sikkens: Simply Beautiful Woodcare Products For Your Wood Ho...
We do not recommend spraying Cetol DEK Finish. For proper application of Cetol DEK Finish use a china bristle brush. If mistakenly sprayed and the overspray is still wet wipe the coating off with a rag and mineral spirits. If the overspray is dry it will be difficult to remove and will require the use of a paint stripper/remover. However, these can cause damage to other surfaces, especially vinyl siding. When I applied the second coat of Cetol Dek Finish it turned white. What happened?

Sikkens: Simply Beautiful Woodcare Products For Your Wood Ho...
Cetol DEK Finish turns white on the second coat due to dew or moisture on the surface before it has dried. This moisture makes the surface rough and appear cloudy. To fix the situation, wait seven days to allow the coat to fully dry; lightly scuff sand the surface with 220 grit sandpaper, remove dust and apply another very light coat of Cetol DEK Finish. Do not work too late into the afternoon or evening. See similar questions...

Messmer's Inc. UV Plus for Hardwood Decks - Stain, finish an...
We wouldn't recommend it. UV Plus for Hardwood Decks needs at least 24-48 hours to dry in good conditions. If a newly stained deck is rained on, the rain can force the stain up out of the pores of the wood, leaving a blotchy appearance. It's best to wait until there is no precipitation expected for 48 hours. In some regions, this may mean waiting for a different time of year to finish the deck. See similar questions...

I want a shiny finish. Can I put multiple coats on the deck?

FAQ - UV Plus wood stain for Hardwood Decks - Messmer's Inc.
No. The only way to get a shiny surface on the wood is by using a multiple coat, film forming finish. We don't recommend clear film forming finishes on decks because they are slippery when wet, they will eventually peel, and they are difficult to maintain and recoat. When properly applied, a penetrating finish like UV Plus for Hardwood Decks will not be shiny, it will have a natural, matte look. For a glossy or satin appearance on vertical surfaces, we recommend our Timberflex products. See similar questions...

I want to put a clear wood finish on my deck/home. What do I use?

Penofin® Wood Finishes FAQs
Our only clear finish is for interior use only. We would suggest the transparent wood finish designed for the type of wood you want to coat. (Examples: Cedar/Marine for cedar or teak; Transparent Redwood for redwood.) This indicates overapplication of the wood stain. In most cases, washing the surface with a solution of TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) and water, (with some scrubbing) after seven days drying time, will correct the problem. See similar questions...

Cetol SRD should be weathered before recoating. Visually inspect the coating and when it appears faded spray the surface with water. When reapplying Cetol SRD, the surface should be back to bare wood; otherwise the wood may look dark, blotchy, or shiny. See similar questions...
