What is the difference between varnish and aqueous coating?

RAM Printing: Custom Offset Printing, Finishing, Binding & L...
RAM Printing recommends a varnish or an aqueous coating anytime your project has heavy ink coverage. At the very least, either will act as a protective coating to help eliminate offset, scratching, and rub off. An aqueous coating is used as an all over coating and is best for minimizing fingerprints on coated stocks. We have limited capabilities for doing "spot" aqueous coating.

What is the difference between Aqueous coating and UV coating?

Inkling Printing & Design - FAQ's
Aqueous coating is water based and environmentally friendly. It is not a glossy as UV but it also is not detrimental to the environment. UV coating is a chemical based coating that takes longer to dry but has a much higher gloss than Aqueous. PRINTINGPros.com :: FAQs
No. We coat most every job with a satin aqueous coating at no extra charge to yield greater durability, faster drying time, and a 'classier' look. Note that letterhead and envelopes are never coated.

M3 Printing | 877-667-3530
UV Coating is a very slick, glossy coating applied to the printed paper surface and dried on press with ultraviolet (UV) light. The slick surface of UV coating makes it eye catching, and therefore very popular for printing the covers of paperback novels. Because UV coating can cause slight variations in match colors, consulting with an ink manufacturer or printer will yield best results.

BioProgress - FAQs
The main processes used in enteric or film coating use pan coating or fluid bed manufacturing systems. Essentially tablets are spray coated with a polymer dissolved in a solvent with the tablet cores undergoing rotation in a pan. The cores will become wet with solvent which will then undergo a drying process. If an aqueous solvent is used, with a tablet core that contains a highly water soluble drug, then some of the drug can migrate out of the core.
