We will accept MCAT scores from 2005 forward. If you sat for an MCAT earlier than 2005 that you would like considered, you need to apply for a waiver (Scroll to bottom of page for instructions).

NJMS accepts MCAT scores from any year. All 2007 MCAT dates are acceptable for applicants who wish to enter in 2008.

The oldest MCAT accepted is 4 years old; therefore, for those who wish to matriculate in August of 2007, the oldest MCAT acceptable would have been taken in 2003.

Like the GPA, there is no "good" MCAT score: individuals with low MCAT scores gain admission to medical school, while some candidates with very high scores are not accepted. The most common total numeric score for admitted applicants is 26-28. Applicants with a total numeric score of 27 are as likely to be accepted as rejected.

MCAT scores are good for a period of two years. For instance, April 2005 is the oldest MCAT accepted for entry with the 2008 first year class.

We will not consider the January 2007 MCAT as a basis for determining whether to invite candidates for an interview. We might, however, consider the score if an applicant on our waitlist after interviewing sends an official score report.

It is not necessary for students to submit an MCAT score. However, if a student has sat the MCAT examination, submitting the score will assist UNSW staff in assessing the application for a place in UNSW Medicine.

The Admissions Committee recommends applicants receive a score of 20 or above on the MCAT. This year's incoming class received an average of 23.

The adcom is going to wonder, has this guy decided he wants to do medicine or is he going to change his mind again? An MCAT of 35 is more than decent... I think that the bigger challenge for you will be assuring the adcom that you will fit in (you are non-traditional in every sense of the word) and that you will stay in medicine.

If you are hoping to matriculate in a professional school the year after you graduate, you should take these exams in the spring of your Junior year. If you plan to do a gap year after you graduate, you should take the MCAT or GRE in the spring two years before you hope to matriculate. For example, if you plan to matriculate in Fall 2010, you will be applying in Fall 2009, which means you should take the MCAT or GRE no later than the Spring of 2009.

GPA's and MCAT scores do not offset one another. Both have predictive value for success in medical school, particularly in the first two years, which everyone seems to think are the hardest. Therefore, the Admissions Committee generally prefers students who have both good GPA's and good MCAT scores.

Applicants to Texas Tech are encouraged to take the April administration of the MCAT. The Office of Admissions will not receive the scores until mid-July. This is important to remember because an early, completed application can make all the difference between interviewing and not. This doesn't mean the August MCAT is not desirable.
