Adobe Acrobat can be used to convert any document to Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). In most programs, you can use the "Print" command and choose "Adobe PDF" as the printer to use. This does not print out the document, but rather causes it to be converted into a PDF. There is a related program called "Acrobat Distiller" which can make more complex PDFs such as encrypted PDFs. Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Distiller are installed on all lab computers.

A document in Portable Document File (PDF) format does not require a copy of the word processing program used to create them in order to be viewed. A PDF document can be viewed by anyone with a free viewer such as Acrobat Reader, a product of Adobe Systems, Inc. There are several ways in which you can convert a document from a word processing program (e.g., Word Perfect, Word) into the PDF format.

All possible scanning settings can be defined by the following menu selection [Documents]/[Scan]/[Scanning settings].

A DVI file (that is, a file with the type or extension .dvi) is TeX’s main output file, using TeX in its broadest sense to include LaTeX, etc. ‘DVI’ is supposed to be an acronym for DeVice-Independent, meaning that the file can be printed on most kinds of typographic output device. While there is no direct way to convert PDF to word, you can open the PDF file in the Preview program on the Macintosh and open the word document in which you want to include the PDF. Just copy pages from the Preview program (with ) and paste it into the word document (with ).

Create a .forward file in your home directory on the machine you wish to forward mail from, e.g. tigger, containing the email address you wish mail forwarded to. Usually there is someone in the School who knows how to do this and may be able to help you, perhaps using Adobe Acrobat. It is often convenient to convert reports into PDF format for distribution to other users who do not have the Reporter software. A dvi file can be transformed into a postscript file optimized to be converted to pdf using the "dvips -Ppdf" command and then the postscript file is transformed into a pdf file using the "ps2pdf" command.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format. This is the preferred format for digital printers to print from. A PDF is a format that allows a document to be opened and printed by a Mac or a PC without changing the appearance of the document. When creating a PDF it is important to make sure that you embed all the fonts.

AquaPDF only reads XML and PDF files, output is PDF only. It cannot read Word, Excel, RTF or HTML files. Image formats supported are JPEG, GIF, and PING.

All your documents must be converted to PDF before submitting them to the Court's Electronic Case Files System (ECF).
