I can't send e-mail. The error I receive is 'Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' First make sure you have checked in the account properties of the Outlook Express / MS Outlook the option 'My server requires authentication'. Please note that if you are using different e-mail client the settings might be different. If not perform the following test.

Since you have remote access to the server as an administrative user, you can install any program for which you have a regular licence and personalise your server software configurations.

Enter "pop3.phreego.com" for the incoming mail server and "smtp.phreego.com" for the outgoing mail server. Click "Next". Enter your full email address (example: mailbox@phreego.com) in the username field.  Enter your password.  If you would like Outlook Express to remember your password check the "Remember password" box. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box unchecked.  Click "Next".

In the "Preferences" window, in the "Email" section under Accounts, enter your name and email address. Set the "SMTP Server" as "smtp.phreego.com" and the "POP Server" as "pop3.phreego.com". Enter your full email address (example: mailbox@phreego.com) as the "Account ID". Under the "Servers" tab, enter "smtp.phreego.com" for the "Outgoing Mail Server" and "pop3.phreego.com" for the "Incoming Mail server".  Enter your entire email address (example: mailbox@phreego.

Start the Network Control Applet by clicking on Network from Control Panel (Start - Settings - Control Panel) or right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties Select "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP Service". DHCP settings will only override IP address and subnet mask locally configured. If you have configured DNS, WINS etc locally then the DHCP configuration will not overwrite it.

The env variable ${XPSERVERLIST} contains a list of display identifiers (seperated by whitespace) to tell the application where it can find the Xprt servers. Usually ${XPSERVERLIST} is set by the profile startup scripts (e.g. /etc/profile or /etc/profile.d/xprint.sh) using the output of "/etc/init.d/xprint get_xpserverlist". Example: % export XPSERVERLIST="'/etc/init.

If you use Eudora or Outlook to access your USFconnect IMAP account, you don't have to make any changes. Email tagged as Spam will be filtered to your Junk folder. If you are an Exchange user (i.e. you have a general account you check), you will need to create a rule in the Outlook Exchange client to filter Spam into a Junk folder.

The short answer: use IMAP, use abel.math.harvard.edu as the mail server both for sending and receiving mail and make sure to enter your account name. An other possibility of course is to connect to your account by ssh and read email with "pine" "mutt" or "mail".

If you use Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger 4.7X your email settings will be automatically configured when you upgrade to SBC Yahoo! DSL. If you use another email client, you must change your settings manually after you activate your SBC Yahoo! DSL account. Here are SBC Yahoo! DSL email settings so you can make the changes to your email account:

Outlook Express users, please note: Go to the "Tools" menu, and choose "Accounts..." Then choose "Add"; then "Mail..." Then enter the information you're asked for, including the information above.

Your username is your total email address, ie: your username@nscorp.com.au is the username used to authenticate you. Our email server settings are listed on our Account Settings page. Please refer to this page for oue email server settings.

Email Command requires that when sending out-bound email using our SMTP servers that your email software be authenticated before allowing the use of our servers -- this helps us fight spammers. Your email software must be configured to authenticate you before your out-bound email will be sent. The username and password are the same ones you use to receive email. For most email software you will have the option of selecting to use the same username and password as you use for incoming email.
