CAN WE HAVE A CROSSWALK AT THIS INTERSECTION?

Traffic Safety FAQ's
Crosswalks can either be "marked" with painted lines of white or yellow, or left "unmarked" at an intersection. The purpose of a "marked" crosswalk is to encourage pedestrians to use a particular crossing. Normally, crosswalks are "marked" at places where there is an abundance of pedestrian movement, at a signal, and where pedestrians cannot recognize a proper place to cross.

What is an unmarked crosswalk?

Seattle Department of Transportation
Every intersection contains legal crosswalks; marked or unmarked. An unmarked crosswalk is the portion of the roadway at an intersection 10-feet wide that would connect opposite sides of the street.

What is a trade concordance or crosswalk?

A concordance is a set of definitions used to cross-classify products. An example would be a product assigned to a HS code of "abcd" which corresponds, in the HS-SIC concordance, to the SIC code "wxyz" . The codes should always be the same through the first six digits. Beyond six digits, some import and exports codes differ. Census cd-roms have this data in database format and are available at depository libraries and for purchase.

Any symbols which should not be available to the user should have their private flag set. In C, this corresponds to using the "static" storage class specifier whenever possible. Write documentation, preferably one or more manual pages, for any exported symbols. If your library uses configuration files, write manual pages for those too (they belong in chapter 5). Specify in the manual pages any dependency on non-standard libraries.

How do I go about getting a crosswalk installed?

FAQ, City of Longmont, Public Works Division
Remember, State law says that a crosswalk exists at any intersection whether or not markings exist. Pedestrians and motorists have the same legal rights and duties at unmarked crosswalks at intersections as they do at a location with crosswalk markings. Marked crosswalks are not installed arbitrarily. The main function of a marked crosswalk is to serve as a guide to indicate to pedestrians the appropriate place to cross. They are also used to warn motorists of potential pedestrian crossings.

How do I create a roof wall drip line intersection?

Cedar Shake & Shingle Bureau
Put the bottom step flashing on the starter course, then bend the bottom of the step flashing out about 1" to 1 ½" away from the wall. The top of the step flashing is still under the siding or plaster. You do have to trim the top starter course shingle with a triangle shaped cut to allow this. This does leave a triangular shaped void between the bottom of the step flashing, the wall, and the shingle, that can be filled with caulk.

If I am in the intersection and the light turns red, am I going to get a ticket?

APD | FAQ
No, only vehicles that enter the intersection after the light has turned red will be cited. The automated system uses ground loops to determine the vehicles that will not stop prior to the intersection.

Why don't we have a standard plan for intersection joint layouts?

Division of Design - Pavement - Frequently Asked Questions
Answer: It is not practical to develop a standard plan for intersections because each intersection is different. Intersections have various widths and lengths with possible turn pockets, cross walks, etc. Also, various manholes and drainage inlets may be located in the intersection that impact joint locations. With all these various elements, it requires good judgment to determine the best design for each particular intersection to layout the jointing pattern for saw cutting.

Why do you call this a 'high-collision' intersection?

Web Cam FAQ, Zordoc
There is a sign from each direction cautioning drivers that this is a high-collision intersection, I guess this is so that people will avoid running a red light (as opposed to a regular intersection where they can drive recklessly). If you see an accident, please send me a picture. This intersection has a red-light camera, so drive carefully. My last car was totalled a few blocks south of this intersection during bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic, look at the mangled wreckage.

HOW CAN I GET A STOP OR YIELD SIGN AT MY INTERSECTION?

Traffic Safety FAQ's
The Town follows the standards of the MUTCD, which requires specific signs for specific purposes. The true purpose of a stop sign is solely to assign right-of-way at an intersection. Various research studies indicate that stop signs do not reduce the overall speed of traffic. When stop signs are installed the speeds are reduced in the vicinity of the stop sign, but tend to be higher between the intersections as drivers try to make up for delays.

How do I compute intersection points of two polytopes?

MPT - The Multi-Parametric Toolbox for Matlab
Assume there are two polytope objects defined - P1 and P2. Intersection of the two polytopes is computed as: >> I = P1 & P2 This case happens only when a 3D figure is plotted in the slide-show window. The buttons are still there, they are just not visible. Try to click on their supposed location, they should appear again. This behavior is a known Matlab bug. The only way how to suppress the warning messages is to turn off warnings completely by typing >> warning off
