Good question - one can easily miss new messages which have been incorrectly marked as junk. Workaround: Both for trash and the junk folder, one can enable displaying the number of ALL messages in the preview pane (in brackets after the folder name) by using the environment variable EVOLUTION_COUNT_TRASH=1.

SPAM Filtering was implemented in June of this year. The SPAM Filter gives each incoming email a score based on common SPAM elements in an email. Generally any score over 5 is SPAM. SPAM Filter settings on each mail account are set by default to "mark as SPAM in Subject", this means that if the SPAM Score is equal or more than the number in the 'Score to Mark SPAM in Subject' setting, then the word '[SPAM]' is appended to the front of the subject of the email.

The short answer is yes. Whether or not it is a good idea is a different topic altogether. While our spam scanner is very efficient, it can never be 100% effective. Therefore some messages may be false positives (messages incorrectly marked as spam). If you aren't worried about the possibility of losing a few valid emails from time to time contact us and we will set it up so that any messages marked as spam are automatically deleted for you.

Yes, you can. To do this, login to the GOTH.NET web-based email client, and click the SpamAssassin link at the top of the page. If you wish to automatically move all suspected spam emails to a folder other than your INBOX, simply select the folder from the drop down list next to the "Spam Folder" option, and click the Change Default Settings button. You must have created the folder you wish these emails to be moved to first.

Add the sender to your whitelist. In ~/.spamassassin/user_prefs, add the following: whitelist_from mailinglist@example.com Where mailinglist@example.com is the From: address for the mailinglist. If you are a mailserver administrator and you have have spamtraps, you may help feed the SpamCop database, subject to administrator approval. Traps must consist of email addresses which have never been used for legitimate email. They should not be "recycled" user accounts. They should not be well known email addresses, however fake. Spammers and other users should not be aware what the addresses are and you should try to keep them as confidential as is reasonably possible.

Select the Junk folder and then open its Properties via Folder | Properties and then Receiving Messages | When To Mark Read. In the "Email Unread Marks" box, enable the option to override the default, then enable the option to "Mark messages read when routed to this folder". This will mark all messages automatically filed or routed to that folder as read.

You can create a folder on your IMAP server named "sa-learn-ham" and copy any mail that you don't want marked as spam to that mail box. This MIGHT help. The spam filters will check that mailbox and try to use any messages in it to learn what is and is not spam. The email failed spam test(s), but the actions you are using for those spam tests did not mark the email as spam (for example, if you use the WARN action, the spam will be delivered and will seem like normal email to many email clients). The short answer is: "You aren't." Usually when someone thinks the Apache site is originating spam, it's because they've traced the spam to a Web site, and the Web site says it's using Apache. See the previous FAQ entry for more details on this phenomenon. No marketing spam originates from the Apache site. To write to a postmaster, just substitute the perp's username in their address (e.g., bozo@otherwise.lovely.com) with "postmaster" (i.e., postmaster@otherwise.lovely.com.) Please be brief and polite with the postmasters, include a copy of the e-mail you received, and leave the subject-line intact (in case the postmaster wants to set up an auto-responder.

Unsolicited e-mail, sometimes referred to as 'spam' or 'unsolicited commercial email' (UCE), is electronic mail which is unwarranted and sent for the purpose of selling the recipient goods or services. It is most often used for multi-level marketing schemes, get-rich-quick schemes, work-at-home schemes or for questionable products or pornography. Several years ago 'spammers' developed software that could lift all the email addresses from web pages.

We advise against this as it is possible that legitimate email will be deleted and the sender will never know that you didn't receive it - however, we also have to admit, that's what we do because spam is becoming such a problem. If you're happy that email marked as {Spam?}, and/or more suitably {Definitely Spam?} is always accurate, you can configure Mailscanner to do so in you control panel.
