The fabric weights listed on our website are all by the linear yard (except in the few cases where we specify otherwise). To get a linear yard, we roll out the fabric and cut a yard. That means if the fabric is 60 inches from selvage to selvage, we end up with a 36"x60" piece which is then weighed. Many other fabric companies measure fabric weight by the square yard.

Our wallcovering comes in 30 yard roll lengths. Each roll is 54" wide. So, we use the one linear yard measurement to give our customers a price unit for each pattern and color. Each linear yard (one yard long) is 54" wide. Each one linear yard will cover about 13.0 ft2. A 30 yard roll will cover over 400 ft2.

The $1.50 depends on the pattern and type, our specials can cost less. We can ship a one linear yard piece, but most of the shipping cost and weight is due to the cardboard packaging tube and plastic wrap we use to protect the product during shipping. Yes. Fabric from the Full Custom and Semi Custom departments may be purchased in yard cuts. There are no minimums for cut fabric starting at 1 yard. In our Waverly fabric department, we have a few different programs available. In our "Blowout" category, you can purchase as little as 1 yard and all fabrics are on sale. In the other categories, we have a five yard minimum, but if you order 15 yards or more, we offer a substantial discount.

The fabric weight (i.e. 6.5 oz cotton) is the weight of the fabric per square yard of cloth. Heavier weighted fabrics are usually thicker. The fabric used in the standard T-shirt weights about 5.6 oz. per square yard. Sweatshirts start at approximately 7.5 oz., which is about the same weight as the heaviest T-shirt. The difference is in the brushing of the back of the fabric to provide the fleecy look and feel.

Fabric weight is expressed using both the English and the metric system. The English system refers to ounces per square yard calculated as the weight of a piece of cloth that measures 36" x 36". In the metric system fabric weight is expressed as grams per meter square calculating the weight in grams of a square meter of cloth. Grams per meter squared (gm/m2) is the prevalent form of specification uses.

Before stenciling the fabric, wash and dry it according to label instructions. This will remove the sizing (chemical coating) in new fabric. If the sizing is not removed, your stencil paint will not bond well with the material. When stenciling on fabric, it is much easier if you can keep the fabric from moving around. Do this by using a light coat of spray adhesive on a piece of cardboard that is about 2" larger than the piece of fabric you want to stencil.

Different fabric weights are made to create different thicknesses, hands (how a shirt feels), drapes, and wear. We sell a 12 oz sweatshirt but hardly anyone ever buys it. The thing is practically bulletproof. If you want to play soccer or work around the yard you would much prefer a midweight 7.5 oz sweatshirt.
