Lots of boot and some performance problems can be attributed to firmware "bugs". All machines print the PDC revision at boot up. Or once at "Main Menu>" or "BOOT_ADMIN>" one can print the PDC revision with "in fv" (c3000) or "in" (712) command. Putting more intelligence in any software module will increase the odds of having bugs.
