Transmission fluids licensed by General Motors to use the trademark DEXRON III are required in the Allison 1000 Series™ transmission.

Different transmissions require different types of transmission fluid. The experts at AAMCO recommend that you change your fluid every 25,000 to 35,000 miles as a part of our regular suggested maintenance --Safeguard Service. This service also includes replacing the filter or cleaning the screen, replacing the pan gasket, performing a final leak-check, and performing a road test. This service is warranted for 90 days against any leaks from your pan gasket.

TranSynd is a fully synthetic transmission fluid available from Allison Distributors/Dealers or at GM dealers. TranSynd is a licensed DEXRON III product and has been extensively tested by Allison Engineering in a broad range of Allison products. While TranSynd was developed mainly to meet the harsh operating conditions of heavy-duty transmissions in severe operating conditions like transit buses, its benefits translate to the pickup truck market.

Any fluid that meets DEXRON III requirements is suitable for use in the Allison 1000 Series™. Always verify that the container reads DEXRON III, regardless of whether it is mineral-based or synthetic.

The TR-3550 5sp uses the GM Synchromesh. The T56 and 3650 use Dexron III ATF, and the Viper T56 should use Castrol Syntorque. See the service manual for more details about your transmission.

always, if your car is under warranty, we suggest following your manufacturer's recommendations. In most passenger cars we recommend using Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90. Some people may want to use something lighter, in which case, our ATF or Racing 41 would be good suggestions. Racers may even want to run the Racing 21 which is fine. Many new cars now use an ATF or engine oil.

You should use only Tempest “Rosco” smoke fluid in Tempest “Rosco” Smoke Machines. The earlier Tempest smoke machines (1601, 1801, 9000) were manufactured by Martin and use a Martin specified formula. Tempest offers a “generic” smoke fluid that is safe to use in other brands of machines including the Martin machines.

For most cell analysis we recommend using high grade DI water. Water will not affect the cells during analysis, and it is less likely to leave salt crystal in the fluidics system than saline. However, if the target particles or cells are very small (<4 microns), the instrument may produce better quality data if the sheath fluid and the sample are osmotically similar; generally this means using buffered saline as the sheath fluid.

Wilwood's EXP 600 Plus is the best choice. Other fluids are available, but may have a substantially reduced boiling point, which can cause fluid boiling and brake fade under moderate operating conditions. DOT 5 Silicon Fluid is not recommended. In addition to being easily aerated which leads to a spongy brake pedal, it is not hygroscopic, which permits moisture accumulation in the brake system, lowering the boiling point.

The human body needs water to replenish the blood and fluids in order to work properly. Water regulates the body's temperature through perspiration, removes waste via urine and carries nutrients and other substances throughout the body. It has been recommended and promoted in the media that we all need to drink around 6-8 glasses of water each day, however there is no evidence to support this. The best way of knowing how much to drink is to drink enough to satisfy your thirst.

Use ONLY what it says in your owner's manual to use. Many Chrysler transmissions are NOT compatible with standard fluid! ATF+4 is usually the best one to use with automatic transmissions before 2001, ATF+5 after. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT and very misunderstood issue. Please see the discussion at the end of this part of the FAQ.

Each engine manufacturer has different specifications. Please check your owner's manual or call the engine manufacturers tech support number.

Use only DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. The use of any other type of fluid will damage your brake, and could cause your brake to fail. We recommend using DOT 4 brake fluid because it has a higher boiling point than the DOT 3 brake fluid.

Check the owner's manual! The proper procedure varies from make to make. For example, most, but not all, vehicles should be at operating temperature. I can offer some tips, however. Be sure to check both sides of the dipstick and repeat the process a few times to ensure accuracy. If you have just added fluid, you may get different readings because some of the added fluid will have adhered to the tube; for this reason, the lowest reading is the correct one.

Not really, but because transmission fluid doesn't compress, and air does, severe overfilling may make the fluid become aerated. This could cause abnormal operation.

A:If you use a transverse engined car at a track for speed events (as opposed to a parking lot autocross), you may actually be in a corner long enough to slosh oil clean away from the pickup, with possible bad results (please don't ask how I know). The real solution is to get a baffled oil pan, but synthetic oils will do better than dino oils in this situation. far as I know, most/all water cooled VW transmissions require gear fluid with an API rating of GL-4 (MIL-2105).
