Yes. Every qualified individual must complete a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education per license class as required by the Contractor Licensing Review Board each calendar year. The costs of Contractor Licensing sponsored classes are covered by the annual license fee. TDLR approved continuing education (CE) hours will be required to renew a cosmetology license that expires on or after September 1, 2006. The hours required must be completed within the term of the license being renewed.

Courses which are not approved by TDLR as continuing education courses can not be used for license renewal. If the college course is a TDLR approved continuing education course, then the course hours can be used for license renewal. However, the courses must be taken during the period of the license being renewed.

A renewal applicant is not required to comply with the continuing education requirements for the first renewal following original licensure if the initial salesperson's or broker's license was issued less than one year prior to the expiration date.

Thirty-hours (30) of continuing education are required per renewal term for licenses issued prior to 1/1/92; those licenses issued after 1/1/92 will need to complete twenty-five hours (25) per year for each of the first four years; thereafter, they will complete thirty-hours (30) hours for every two-year term. Allow 45 days after the course completion date for the provider to submit the necessary information and for the Department to update your record.

The number of hours that you need depends on whether you have a professional credential or state license. If you hold a professional credential, contact the professional association from which you obtained the credential and ask for their continuing education requirements (see information below on the NASW credentials and specialty certifications).

You must complete your continuing education during each 2-year license period prior to the renewal deadline of November 30th of even-numbered years.

Professional licenses are granted on a state-by-state basis. Most states require licensees to take refresher courses at regular intervals to ensure that their knowledge remains current. Courses designed to meet these requirements are known as Continuing Education Courses, or CEs. Frequently, the courses will be different from state to state.

The Board adopted a Continuing Education program, Rule ?851.32, at the May 20, 2005 Board Meeting. The rule becomes effective September 1, 2006 and states that continuing education requirements must be met prior to license renewal on or after that date.

In order to become a pre-license instructor or continuing education instructor, you would need to apply through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. They have downloadable forms on their Web site that list the criteria needed to be able to be certified. Click on Real Estate Professions and then forms. The pre-license instructor license does require taking an exam. Exam information may be found through the Applied Measure Professional's Web site at www.goamp.com.
